Please pray for Chaz

My chihuahua, Chaz, is very sick. We just got back from the vet and his heart and lungs are enlarged and his lungs are half full of fluid.
The vet gave him a shot of Lasix and gave us some to give him twice a day as well as a pill for his heart that he will take once a day.
She said the next week will tell, but did not seem hopeful.
Please include my baby boy in your prayers. He is only 7 years old. He is struggling to breathe and my heart is broken.

Terry, I am so sorry. I'm glad you took Chaz to the vet right away.

The vet may not have sounded promising, but Lasix (Flurosamide) is a VERY effective drug in flushing out excess fluids out of the lungs. Did she tell you that Chaz will have to remain on Lasix for the rest of his life because of his condition? Also, Chaz may be thirstier than normal, and that is perfectly normal. Let him drink to his little heart's desire. That's the effect of the Lasix, and nothing to be concerned about.

She said that he may have had a slight heart murmur that was undetected. That was the only thing she could think of that could have caused this.

Thank you, Wendy. She gave us 3 months worth of the heart medication that he will have to take for the rest of his life, but only 2 weeks worth of Lasix. I didn't even think to ask if he would stay on that as well, but he goes back next week unless something happens and he needs to be seen sooner. He has peed 3 times so far, so the Lasix is working, and he is drinking now, so maybe that's a good sign? I hope so. I am keeping him calm & letting him get some rest, as my crying was scaring him
The vet said that if I hadn't gotten him in today, that she thought it would have been too late. Thank God I took him!!!

Sending prayers for you and little Chaz, Terry. A similar thing happened to my sister's son. He went to the doctor about a broken thumb (football) and they discovered a heart murmur and fluid in his lungs and around his heart. They caught it in time and now our Tim is hale and hearty and still playing footy. Lasix is great stuff all right! We're all hoping it works for Chaz and gets him well again.

Healing thoughts for little Chaz! I lost all three of my chihuahuas last year to old age all around the age of 15. Your little guy is a babe still. In my vet tech days I personally saw Lasix work miracles. I will hope for it to be effective for your sweet pooch!
