Plucking cockatoo...

Have you looked into heated perches or infrared panels? My mom rescued a severely abused parakeet. Parakeets are not prone to plucking but this little girl was severely abused by a child for two years, when my mom adopted her she had no feathers under her wings, on her legs or her breast. She was very close to death from starvation and an infection. She couldn't maintain her body heat. Her avian vet suggested the perch, and the panel if she wouldn't use the perch. She really likes her perch so Mom didn't get the panel. Maybe someone else uses them and can tell you more about the panels.

I need to stop reading your posts. I'm getting attached to your bird. I have a soft spot for cockatoos and pluckers.

Just because she has plucked does not mean she will be extraordinarily difficult, depending on the cause. I am relatively new to toos. about 5 weeks ago we took in a plucker and shredder. We know very little of her history other than she broke her leg a few years ago. We took her to the vet to rule out medical reasons. With improving her diet and daily misting with water and aloe juice we have noticed a significant improvement in appearance and attitude. Our vet suggested adding red palm oil to her food, don't know if that was a benefit but will keep including it.

Definitely check out mytoos. These birds (all birds for that matter) demand and deserve love and attention even after the novelty wears off and reality sets in.

Hi everyone!

Look at my Album Pictures to see Alice in the Pet Shop...

I couldn't resist to go visit her again... :)

Please let me know your thoughts...

Aww, Alice looks like a Sweetheart!
Have you made a decision on whether to get her? I have been reading your thread and it seems she may have already stolen your heart:)

I really want to adopt her and I'm discussing about it with my husband... :)

Do you know what specific specie she is?

I was thinking about an Eleonora or a Triton...
