Not to appear judgmental, but I would never allow a parrot or cat to be uncaged in a vehicle. Too many distractions and potential for severe harm or death to the pet.

Why on earth would you attempt to blame your bird for causing an accident?

A dog ran into the road in front of me and I swerved to avoid it... it ran off...

But... My bird was going after my coffee?! So I wasn't paying attention to where I was going... Ummm... not the sort of thing you admit to the police.

If she got taken out by the airbag, what about the parrot? I hope that it's OK, I would think the force would have killed it.

In My 4 door Silverado, the back seat folds down And I have a perch back there that screws into the floor. The birds sit on that....apart from birdell, she prefers my shoulder and is quite good about it.

But yeah, it is distracted driving, new laws are going out now as well for those that drive having their mutt on their lap with it's head out the window. Officer told me recently it's a $250 dollar fine. $ 600 for second offense. Distracted/ and Careless driving. And will pull you over for it.

There was a add on CL here for a Fantastic looking Too but the picture showed him drinking his morning coffee. She said anyone buying him had to promise to give him coffee every morning. $ 3000.00 Crazy people

Hey, the guy who had Pecker before I did used to think it was cute to get her drunk, and that bird was a serious beer drinker...

Her liver was also shot by the time she was 35 - and she was dead by age 38 - where she should have lived to be twice that!

Why did the parrot drink the coffee??? Don't know....still trying to figure out which came first, the chicken or the egg....Then work out why the chicken crossed the road.....( to cause an accident?...we'll never know)...

Most cars' airbags are pressure activated so that there won't be an unnecessary bag deployment, which is why only the driver side bags will trip if there are no passengers in the car.

Fortunately, a parrot wouldn't have been anywhere near heavy enough to activate the passenger side airbag, otherwise your speculation about the fatal consequences of an airbag impact against a parrot might have proven tragically accurate.

Fortunately, a parrot wouldn't have been anywhere near heavy enough to activate the passenger side airbag, otherwise your speculation about the fatal consequences of an airbag impact against a parrot might have proven tragically accurate.

Reality check - because a parrot faceplanting into the windshield or the glove box would work out so much better...

Hahahaha! Actually, wiseguy, depending on the speed of impact, the air bags could indeed be worse. The impact speed doesn't have to be very high to trigger the bag deployment, after all. And one of the reasons for the weight pressure needed for bag activation is that children below a certain weight and height (who should not be in the front seat, anyway) could actually be killed by the rapidly expanding bag rather than by the car impact itself. Below a certain height and weight, the air bag is actually inimical to one's health.

Not to mention that, as can be inferred by the last sentence or two of the article, the little caffeine fiend thankfully survived the crash. (Hopefully he's learned his lesson about trying to steal a sip from his mother's coffee cup while she's driving. How could she possibly be expected to keep her eyes on the road with all THAT going on? Lol!)

Two years ago Husband and I hit a trophy sized buck in Iowa, it was rut season, the deer were running crazy. We had a GMC Envoy, rental. The buck darted in front of us, we were doing 60. I remember seeing the deer go up, slide up the hood then it flew off the hood and slid several feet, the air bags never deployed. When the sheriff arrived he said since the deer hit high the air bags weren't triggered. I'm thinking about my next trip with Venus tomorrow, back seat and travel cage tomorrow.
