Ok so how do u guys handle birdie poop all over? my hubby is getting very annoyed at the fact that they poop just about everywhere, like when on our bed specially. also carpet and wooden floors. my babies sped 80-90% of their day out the cage.

You can train them to poop in their cage or specific area! Or you can get one of those bird diaper things.....

My parrots still poop on me once and awhile, but they do try to poop away from me, but it is the bed sometimes as the mattress is under me. I've read about poo training, but I am working full time and 1 quarter away from my degree in a BA music so I am also in school full tome......so that can wait!!! I come home at night at 10pm and I take turns to watch tv with one of my beebees at night so it happens....I just deal with it and good thing the washer is close!

You can use a flight suit, which is like a bird diaper, but be sure to change the lining often. It'll take some training time to get them used to it though...

I think the easiest way is to clean it up right after they're done doing their business. I know some people like to wait until it dries....but I personally would forget all the spots they had "accidents" on, so I wipe it when they drop 'em, no big deal. :D

Personally, the idea of a flight suit for a birdy out of the cage 80-90%/day seems like it would be too much --- they would have to live in them. Where do they go when no one is home with them? Do they stay on top of and inside of their cages? Do they go wherever they want (flighted or clipped)?

If you like to have them with you on your bed or sofa, lay a towel or sheet or big t-shirt under you in the areas where the poop always ends up. If they are roaming around on top of the bed, then have an old sheet under them that you only use when they are on the bed. You can use old washable curtains and tablecloths too. If you don't have any, I recommend starting a collection as soon as possible until you have time in your already-full day to figure out something else. Great way to recycle unused stuff (get from family and friends too). Wash them regularly.

Training a bird to poop isn't difficult. Find out how long on average your bird goes in between poops. As it gets close to the time, place the bird back on its stand. Don't pick it up again until it goes. When it does go praise it and reward it. Took about a week for my birds to get the idea, and now they fly back to their stand when they have to go. Accidents only happen now when something spooks them.

Also, you have to make it convenient for birds. If there's not a stand or cage in each room, I like to use an egg crate with a rope perch on top lined with newspapers. That acts like a portable litter box.

Mine only go on the papers in front of their cage first thing in the morning then if we bring them back off and on. Otherwise they poop like yours do. I took two old towels and cut holes big enough for my head to fit though. That way they aren't pooping on me but accidents happen on the towel. Whatever is on the furniture or carpet I do let dry. At the end of each day I go around with an old toothbrush and get rid of the poops. If there are some stain marks I go back with the toothbrush and a bit of soapy water.

well they have full run of the house, between the stand in the kitchen the cage in our lounge and my bed. there is poop all over lol down the passage everywhere. I try clean it up as it happens but sometimes I don't see it. and then DH has a fit when he sees it.

Im gona do the sheet thing and also try to train them, dunno how I will get it it right but im gona try lol

:( I can understand that...it's not an easy thing to figure out. I'd try towels, flight suit for a few hours, at some point you'll figure out your own system. I use this which I love!

I put Kiwi on it every ten minutes and she poops dutifully. If she doesn't have to go, she does this cute little head bob equivalent to a foot stomp to tell me that she's not ready to go yet!

Not sure how attached your birds are to you, but I cannot go anywhere without her wanting to come too, so this type of poop control works well for us.

Mine are out 24/7 but they are poop trained.

And I have a bird room so the mess is contained. Those floors are linoleum. They clean up with soap and water. And this gets swept and spot cleaned daily, and break down cleaned weekly. If I don't it's quite GROSS!

I also have a steam cleaner. And a carpet cleaner. And a spot bot. And they get used daily.

You can potty train your bird pretty easily, I've heard. You can also put diapers on your bird, which is probably one of the funniest sights you'll ever see haha.:09:

But yeah I haven't bothered to potty train my parrot yet so he mostly just poops all over me. By the time I put him in his cage I always have a least 100 poops on my shoulder and in my hair and on my eyebrows and in my mustache and everywhere. It's cool though, I just take good shower after.

Bird diapers don't work very well. Not a really good option. Poop train them.
