Poopy Happy Hut

Does your bird poop inside the happy hut?

My little lovebird often doesn't make it to the edge when he scoots back during the night to poop and end up pooping inside the hut. I think some nights it then makes him uncomfortable inside and he comes out.

I've never had this happen. Puck stopped sleeping in his happy hut after a couple months though. He did poop ON it though. You can just throw it it in the washing machine.

When my conure decided she didn't want to sleep in it anymore she also pooped all over it to let me know, lol!

Yes, I would just wash it every couple of days or so. If you put it inside a pillow case and knot the end it won't get all beat up in the washing machine.

Yeah, I just take off the metal hooks, put in the mash bag, and wash it with my stuff. But that's maybe every 1-2 weeks. With the old cage setup, he slept on top and that's where he went, but it was to the side, so I didn't clean it every day. Now, in the new cage, he wants to sleep inside, and I'd like to encourage that. But there is poop (2-3) in there every morning. It's a small bird, so it's not much, and he does unload big time when he gets out in the morning, but still.

I started taking it out in the morning to rinse only those couple of spots inside, and then return in the cage to dry out, but I am a bit concerned it won't get all the way dry by the evening. Plus, I am not sure I want to keep that up, rinsing every morning.

Today I moved the tent a little bit away from the cage side, so he could scoot all the way out. Hmm, maybe I'll just leave it dirty for a couple of days and he'll be just uncomfortable enough to make a better effort at aiming, but not too grossed out to not want to go back in.

Ah, the things we bird owners have to think about!

My Lovebird does that as well. They are really small poops that dry off quick so I just use a dry old toothbrush to remove them. I wash the hut when needed.
