So this morning I let Popeye out along with the other boys for some flying time.

He is having trouble gaining altitude. He tried to fly up to a ledge that has a bird gym that is about 10 feet high. He ended up landing on the side of Bingo's cage. That's the worst place he could have ended up cuz Bingo will bite toes quickly.

From there he tried to fly up to the curtains and ended up on the back of a chair. HE tried on more time to go to the play gym and fell in between Bingo and Lunas cage. After that I put him back in the cage.

I will be trying to make an appointment with the vet for Saturday but what should I have the Vet check for??

I don't have time to go into more detail right now as I have to go to work but I can answer questions once I get to work.

Popeye will be 2 years old in August this year so he's not old. I don't know if his poop is normal or not cuz he is housed in a cage with his father. His activity level has been normal.
I have an accurate scale but no way to make him hold still to weigh him.

Eats seeds Pellets (Zupreem:eek:) Birdy bread and Kale.

take him to a different room to assess his flying potential without risk? Offer pepperoni...birds love pepperoni for some reason, just not to much.

I took Popeye out of his cage a 2nd time and he flew strait away to the birdie gym.
IDK.
The only thing different was Lucky and Baby were in there cage instead of being out in the living room already.

Popeye wants to be friends with Lucky and Baby but Lucky and Baby have eyes only for each other. Lucky and Baby have been bonded to each other since about 2002.

In the past when I have let those birds out at the same time when Popeye lands close to Lucky and Baby they make Popeye fly away.

Maybe Popeye was headed towards where Lucky & Baby were and then changed his mind at the last minute (knowing he would not be welcome) and made a bad landing.

Sounds like the room he is in with the other birds may need more places to land, like swings, rope and things between cages to climb on. Sometimes climbing/crawling is easier than flying. If you provide lots of places to land and connect gyms and cages together with things they can climb on it may help him get around better.

I don't know,Wes..maybe he was unsure about where he wanted to go,and flew half-heartedly..I wouldn't think at only 2 y.o. he'd have a medical problem..a CAV is always good when uncertain.

Popeye may have to wait.
Bingos runny nose looks worse.
clear fluid running from both nostrils almost all the way down the upper part of his beak.

I don't know what this could be that only shows up at night and early morning.
I can't take both birds in a the same time and Popeye did fly normally the second time out of his cage.

Have you checked Popeye’s wings for any missing or broken feathers? That could be the cause of his flying issues. He could have flapped around in his cage and lost a few flight feathers in the process. Was he able to fly normally before he had these issues?

Wes? Is Bingo still on antibiotic's?

Jim

He was on antibiotics for a week.
Recheck at the vet showed no gram - bacteria but no gram + ether.
Have been giving him probiotics and he needs togo back and have that checked.

I am sure his runny nose has nothing to do with gram stains or he would have a running nose all the time.

Wish i could find another avian certified vet for 2nd opinion
