Hi All. I know that portable heaters aren't good for our birds but does anyone know if portable air conditioners pose a risk to our birds?

I want to know if they emit any kind of poison into the environment of our homes.

I don't have it pointing at the birds but it is in the same room.

Thank you!

My house doesn't have central air so I have quite a few of the very large portable ac units through out the house. I have never heard of them emitting anything except cooler air :p I am going through menopause if I didn't have them going people would not be safe around me I know that!
I would just make sure the air is not blowing directly at them and you should be fine.

Thank you labell! I worry so much about them. I have 3 and would hate to be without even 1. Do any of yours have built in heaters?

We have a portable ac unit as well- looks like r2d2's cousin. Never had any issues [emoji4]

I've heard that they aren't as energy efficient as a window unit. But one potential advantage is that I think they might be easier to clean. Well, even if the actual cleaning isn't easier, it is at least easier to wheel it outside to clean.

As I've been learning, dirty AC units are suspected to be a significant cause of several nasty conditions in people (including Pulmonary Fibrosis), and I would imagine that they would pose a similar potential problem to our pets.

We bought a cheaper brand called Ocean Breeze. It works well and I like it because we can point it away from the birds. They tell you not to put extra vent pipe on but we did so that we could move it around our very large room and it worked just fine. I think it might be a 600 btu but can double check and it cooled off a large room with cathedral ceilings. Our electric bill was not much more than it usually is.
