Possible URI in found conure?

So, Im sitting here by the computer, and I have heard the bird sneeze a couple of times after he was fixing with his feathers. Didn't think too much of it, as he sat down on me I heard a faint faint clicking noise in his breathing that I do not like. Im always on the look out for that noise in reptiles cause it means URI. I don't have the vet until Wednesday, so I am a tad concerned. Im gonna call tomorrow and see if he can squeeze us in sooner. I looked online and saw other posts that it could be URI, I'd like your guys opinion please. He's happy, he's eating, pooping and flying so it's not bad yet.. But Im worried, Ive heard that birds are like lizards, very stoic about it and then they just die

Oh and is there anything I can do to make him feel better? Like I turned off the AC in the room.. What else?

Just like we humans can, our feathered friends also get things caught in their nose/nares & while sneezing usually expels the problem, sometimes the assistance of a vet is needed...especially if the cause is a seed hull, down feather or other type of object.....

The clicking, could it not be that he's "grinding" his beak? Because that is actually a sign of contentment. Wheezing or panting is usually associated with URI. Bruce has chronic respiratory problems and I'm also used to looking out for it. He gets sneezy and his nares get 'clogged'. No 'clicking' as such though.

Merlin sneezes a lot after he's had a good preen. His dander and lose feathers and all sorts gets up his nose and he needs to get it out, just like we do when we're perhaps dusting somewhere that's really dusty!

Keep us updated anyway. A vet check won't hurt him, but it's probably nothing.

Oh and for making him feel better, ensure that it's a nice warm temperature. Cold air hurts my own lungs, so I imagine a birds would be worse if he did have a URI. Keep things relaxed about him, don't be fussing and just ensure he has food and water and feels safe. Stress, if he's sick, can make things a million times worse.

Basically, warm, darkish, calm, well fed with good food and clean water. That's your solutions for now. x

I'd say that as long as he's stable, alert, eating and not losing weight, it can wait for the vet visit.


With age, my bourke parakeet is more prone to infections and the only way I can keep them at bay or to help her to get over them faster is to use milk thistle supplement in liquid form. For a short while she did have a sinus problem that has since cleared up, but my a-vet and I don't know why she had it, and flushing her sinuses has cleared the problem up. We think she may have a blockage in one side of her sinuses.

This works for her and I, but may not work as well for another bird. My bourke takes milk thistle and Vetri-DMG, but she was not put on these supplements until after she had been to my a-vet several times.
