Bella sleeps in her "regular" cage at night but has no problem going to sleep. She puts herself to bed exactly at 7:00. If I am busy doing something she will park her rear in her sleep "tent" and wait for me to cover her cage up...she is such a good birdie

Sam and Gem have food, water, their snuggly (sp?) and Gem's balls in their sleep cage. Gem has four balls that were originally cheap kitten toys of plastic mesh balls with bells inside. Gem plays with them quietly in the morning between about 5 and daylight. Even Sam ignores her as she amuses herself like a toddler stuck in the crib til mom gets up. Merry and teechka sleep in a fully outfitted cage although they often are in a different larger cage during the day. I think the point is consistency. The cage may be set up differently, but the message to the bird is "now I lay me down to sleep..."

I should have known that Mishka was a BOY, the moment I say nightie nightie, he flips backwards and begins to swing. THEN when attempting to place him his night cage, he dives for the floor and does back push-ups

Hahaha. That is too funny Antoinette. Bella certainly lets us know when it is bedtime! One particular night it was 7:05 she was in her cage doing her "Baby cry"[almosta c oo-ing]... she's only five months old so it was so cute! Her eyes get heavy around 6:30 and she is ready for bed. She is well adjusted to her schedule. She gets a solid 12 hours of sleep and is ready to go in the AM when I get her up!!!

Anyway the gist of all this is that your question was anything but stupid and the responses have a theme of " figure out what works best for your bird with a goal of 12hours and then stick to a pattern of bedtime ritual and night cage environment.

Thanks Barbara (that's my mum's name =]), that sounds about right. The main reason I'm getting a sleep cage is because my baby will spend his day in the aviary and I don't want him sleeping in there, so as the cage won't be used for anything else I figure he can be without toys and such. Just wanted to make sure, mainly because of the reason you pointed out (that they might need something to amuse themselves until mummy gets up lol)
