Pepsi and sprite, both are American male budgies
So I have just started by budgies on a pellet diet after the vet said both of them are pudgy. Now I give them Lafeber's Parakeet Diet. Now when I give it to them at the end of the day instead of pellets they are powder and half pieces of pellets crushed into them. I'm worried that thet arnt eating it they are trying to get it in their mouth but it keeps falling out causing them to try eating it over and over again causing it to turn into powder. I've seen them trying to eat pellets before, half of it go into their mouth while the other half falls down. I know this is very confusing . Please help

They should only be eating 10-15% of their body weight in dry foods alone, but a 100% pelleted diet is not healthy for budgies, either.

Can you use a gram scale to weigh them daily to make sure they are maintaining their weight?

I feed my little birds a mix of 50% pellets to 50% seeds as the dry portion of their diet, along with whatever fresh/cooked frutis, vegetables, grains and legumes I have on hand. They are also flighted, which allows them to burn off excess calories!

Instead of feeding dry seeds, you may want to feed sprouted seeds instead - along with the pellets and other healthy foods and make sure they are maintaining their weight. If they aren't flighted, allow them to grow in their wings so that they can get daily exercise outside of the cage.

It's normal for some mess and waste to occur. If you are only offerring the pellets now, you should get a kitchen scale and weigh your birds every day to make sure they are getting enough to eat. You can also try a more gradual transition by mixing the two types of food together.
