CHEESECAKE (Pineapple~GCC) 2/4/14
I have not always been a bird person. About 11 days ago I took my daughter to the pet store to get a hermit crab. The lady that was helping us had a GCC on her shoulder the whole time. She kept looking at me and cocking her head in the sweetest way until I asked if I could hold her. That is how I fell in LOVE with my baby, Prissy!!! I wanted her so bad but we left the store and went home. I half jokingly told my husband about her and he immediately said NO!!!! So I put it behind me and moved on. The next day the whole family went back to the pet store to pick out another hermit crab bc I read online that they don't like to be alone. While we were there my husband ended up holding the same GCC that I fell in love with. I was trying to ignore it and pay attention to the hermit crabs because I was so disappointed. The next thing I know he says.... OK we can have the bird! She came home with us when we left the store. Of coarse we spent several hours picking out stuff for her :)

And that is how I got my sweet baby Prissy!!! we haven't had her long but she is SPOILED already! She loves to snuggle and sleep on your chest. And most of all She loves her MOMMY (me). We had instantly bonded the moment I picked her up!!!!

Welcome to the forum!!! I got a chuckle out of your post....Prissy worked her magic on your husband to convince him to bring her home!!!! Post some pictures of her when you can, I would love to see her!!! :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of birds

Such a touching story, just shows how the love of a bird can spread
First things first a vet visit in very important, gives you peace of mind knowing that your bird is healthy.
Prissy is beautiful, the colouring is awesome
Any questions just ask, many helpful members always willing to assist

Lol I love her name! Yup, once a conure fixes you with those beautiful, white-ringed eyes, you're done. :) stick to this forum, you'll learn so much about bird care.

I do have a lot of questions...

everything I have read says they don't molt until they are older. However, she had started molting before we got her. She is only 3 months old as of today! Is this OK?

Kalidasa
I named her after my Granny who passed away 3 days after we got Prissy. Her name was Priscilla. We had tried several names but nothing was sticking. However, Prissy has stuck from moment one and it is so strange how their personalities are so much alike!!

Sorry about the passing of your Granny!!! Was the pet shop even sure of the age of Prissy???

I got her from petco. she came with a birth certificate that had a hatch date. Her little "tag" on her leg matches the info on the certificate. I would assume it is correct she is very small. Is there any way to find out for sure?

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the amazing world of birds! Prissy is a gorgeous little gal! :) and what a sweet story about how you met.

Welcome to the world of being a parront :) Prissy is gorgeous!

You'll want to to do some trick training with Prissy and lots and lots of mental stimulation, also harness training is great for allowing you to safety take them outdoors without fear of them flying away(Even clipped birds can fly with a little wind!). This is the aviator harness, free shipping worldwide. Before you know it prissy will be going through puberty, and many parronts have their hearts broken at this time. This is why trick training is so important, queuing a parrot to do a trick can change their attitude from aggression to "yay treats". It's also a great way to strengthen the bonds we have with our birdies.

Here's something fantastic! It's a parrot chopmix, you cook and chop various items, store them in freezer bags, and you know have several months of healthy food already prepared!

Do you have any photos of her new home?

Here are pics of her Cage and Play gym. She spends very little time in the cage. She is in there for sleep and when I am not home. I am a stay at home mom so I am here most of the time.
