Proper response to foot biting

My husband has the privilege of being the least favored person. We leave Buzz's cage open when we are around and he flutters down when he wants to. Tonight my husband was sitting were my son usually is. Buzz's favorite person who wasn't around. Buzz attacked his boots. I grabbed his beak told him to knock it off. He backed off and just stared at him. He did it twice more. I'd had enough toweled him and put him in his cage. I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do or not. We are now ignoring him.

Not an expert, but maybe it would have been better to have your husband be the one to stand up for himself so that the bird understands he's not a scared pushover. Unless he IS. In which case the bird may not be your biggest problem.

This evening my son and husband were sitting next to each other with my husbands boots sitting in front of them on the floor. Buzz came over and attacked the boot again. My husband went to grab his beak and tell him knock it off when Buzz attacked his hand. He latched as my husband was still moving so bird was tossed and lots of blood from the bite. I toweled Buzz and put him away. He's being ignored again. How long should we ignore him and is there any better advice on how to handle his attacks?

I went through the same crap with my CAG not too long ago...

My answer was to be firm and consistent. But CAGs don't give up easily. They are stubborn and determined... (What's that old saying? "Where there's a will, there's a Gray!")

I wouldn't expose flesh. When he does it, Mr. Towel makes an immediate appearance and puts a stop to it. Every time. Until he gets the message. And then tries something else instead... (usually!)
