Quarantine-- how did you do it?

I'm going to be bringing in a new feathered family member very soon, and I have questions pertaining to the quarantine period. Back when I knew little and bought my very first birds, I never quarantined them. I'm lucky everybody has a clean bill of health anyway. I want to give them better this time, though.

My question is, how strict do you have to be? I understand you have to wash your hands after interacting with the nw bird, and (ideally) you should change your clothes too. I've read stories of people who showered after playing with their birds. Is that necessary?

It makes sense that if you have to wash your hands you should wash any other part of your body the new bird touched...

Alrighty, my area of expertise.
1) Recommended time for qurantine is 60 days but 30 days is fine.

2) Make sure the new bird is as far and blocked off as possible from any other bird(s). You don't want them to be breathing the same exact air (if the new bird is sick, the otther birds will then get sick too).

3) When you handle the new bird, wear an old shirt that you can dispose after quarentine. Wash it every few days.

4) Give the new bird vet checks during qurantine to ensure it's healthy. If it's sick, do what is needed to treat it and extend qurantine another two or three weeks.

5)Thoroughly wash your hands, arms, and face immediately after you're done interacting with the new bird.

6) Make sure nothing is shared between the new bird and the old bird(s) during qurantine (toys, playstands, dishes, etc)

I understand how long the period is supposed to be, and I'll try to extend it as long as possible. He seems to be perfectly healthy, so I don't think an entire 60 days will be necessary. We'll see. He will be kept in a seperate room, so the distance isn't a problem at all. They won't be sharing anything at all.

I mean, there are people who don't want to take risks, and that's fine with me, but yeah, it's a little too extreme. Just thoroughly wash your hands, arms, and face.

The reason we need to quarantine new birds is because the new bird will be shedding dorment diseases or viruses due to the changes and stress. I suggest you change your shoes also. I would foster a new bird if I had the room to quarantine. Hope all goes well.
