Quarantining Parrots

I’ve never used formula before, and have no clue how to do that. Kiwi is still eating on her own. Some days are better than others. There is a huge difference between her intake of food, and my sun conure Charlie.

There hasn’t been undigested food in her poop for days now.
That’s great her poops are looking more normal. Hopefully the meds are helping, and she’s been able to digest some food.

I’ve never used formula either. And I’m not really sure how that works with adult parrots vs. babies. From the videos I watched, she just had her macaw on a stand, and was feeding her from a big syringe. I think she was using Harrison’s formula. It might be worth a try to get some and try feeding her from a spoon.

I ordered her some of the Harrison’s recovery formula. It should be here in 5 days. I can try to give Kiwi some. She used to be a really friendly parrot. She was recall trained. Because of all the meds we’ve had to give her she now doesn’t like hands. We had to basically towel her every day for the past month 3 times a day. I assume she is going to resist the formula. Although medicine could have potentially helped her she is forever changed.

Dang, I’m so sorry. Such a difficult experience for all of you. Don’t give up hope though. If she’s able to recover a bit, trust can be rebuilt over time. I’m hoping for the very best for you.

Thank you, with all of the labs, xray, and sedation the vets gave her on top of it… She just doesn’t trust us. She is so scared of humans that she hides. If you have to towel her for meds she then bites, and fights with anything she has left in her. Shes pretty tired after that. The only good thing is her xray was uneventful.

Is there a possibility that you might be able to "hide" her meds in the formula? I hid Metacam in Lilly's wet lorikeet nectar when she was on it after she somehow managed to injure her eye, and she gobbled it all right up!

Unfortunately we ran into an issue with her regurgitating, and flinging her meds. Here’s a video of what she was doing. I have a longer video but it’s too large to post on here. We tried to hide the liquid meds in oatmeal, birdie bread (I can hide Nico’s meds in this), on an almond, and such. She is one defiant conure when it comes to meds. I’m sure the vet is tired of hearing about this, but I don’t know how to get her to keep down her meds. We were told her meds are important too so we need to be using a syringe.

I’ve been giving my other 3 parrots a booster med I got from Harrison’s. I just want to prevent them from getting sick. All 3 of them no matter how I hide the ā€œpillā€ they can find it. They will eat around it. They will pick it out, and throw it to the bottom of their cages. Parrots are so challenging to get to take meds, pills, or anything they define as something they aren’t going to eat.
