Well, I've decided to take in the Umbrella, at least until I can find her a home. I talked to my neighbor, and he said he doesn't mind as long as she doesn't scream all night. He is gone all week anyway, and only comes home on weekends.

Now the only issue I'm worrying about is the dust. I have a green cheek (which doesn't produce dust) and three long haired cats. My mother has allergies and used to have asthma but hasn't used her pump in over 20 years. The cats don't effect her allergies at all.

I know bathing helps cut down the dust, and I was looking into HEPA filters, but do the filters really help? I was looking at one that costs almost $600...and I want to make sure it will make a BIG difference if I'm going to spend that much money.

Any other dust tips?

Here is the link to the filter I'm looking at. Bird Dust Air Purifier from PurerAir.com

They work really well. I have a cockatiel, lovebird and 3 parakeets. The cockatiel produces a lot of dust. I bought a rabbit air purifier and I love it. It massively cut down on the dust, it has a bunch of filters and works great. It is expensive but it was well worth it.

They have a silent function when the room is dark. It is really quiet. I personally override it by putting a night light next to it so it runs on low and causes a little tiny bit of white noise so that none of my birds get night fright. It has never kept me awake or woken me up.

I've heard nothing but good about the rabbit air.

I have a living air and I love it. Totally worth it, and I think they last forever.

I too have a Rabbitair and it works so well. It is made especially for birds and they custom make the filters to your needs. They are 6 filters in total and they are all in a pack. Gets changed only once per year. I do vacuum the top filter every month and you should see what it pulls out of the air. Downside is they are expensive. I went through sever lesser costing air machines that were a waste of money.

Once Pepper arrives, I want to get a rabbit air as soon as I can. I found a coupon code today on retailmenot.com for $20 off.
