Our 4 month old sun conure, Bongo, has a few strange habits and we were wondering if this is typical for sun conures.

1) Bongo will not go inside his "Snuggle Sack" but is more than happy to sleep on top of or behind it. Should we encourage him to go it in, or leave him be?

2) He loves to have his beak rubbed. Is this not a sensitive spot that birds don't wanted touched? He is also more than happy to be scrathed under his wings. He will coo like crazy the entire time you do it.

3) He rarely makes any loud sounds, but lots of cooing or babbling. Will he get louder, or did we just get a good one? haha

I'm sure there are hundreds of "is my bird normal" threads on here, but we are just looking to find out what others think!

Thanks!

These all sound normal. Your little one is an individual and will have many "Quirks" that other parrots will not have. Although I have commonly heard "my parrot is so quiet, whats wrong, did I get a good one?" and then a month later "omg he/she is soooo loud!" lol.

Chia my GCC also does not go into her snuggle hut and convincing her has been pointless. Just let bongo be comfortable however he/she chooses :)

At 4 months your sun is still a baby give him time. Won't belong before he shows his true colors. LOL. My suns have their moments. But what you describing is normal behavior of a sun of that age.
I have some that sleep don't sleep in their huts & some that do.

It's funny you say that about the the snuggle hut. Mine didn't really care for it at first. Loco would hide behind it, stick it's head in, rub on it but not go in. After about 3 or so weeks I found it in there this morning sleeping :)

my black cappped conure loves his snuggle hut he will sleep on his back in it its pretty funny

I don't know about conures, but our macaw and CAG love to have their beaks stroked.

Cal spends an inordinate amount of time on her back LOL I will have to back this up.....give me time and I will get it on film haha!

Cal also enjoys having her beak stroked Di, as did my very first bird, a budgie. I think it's very much the individual bird. I know some who would take a rather large chunk out of that well meaning finger if anyone tried it haha!

Bongo will still not sleep in the hut, but will sometimes stick his head in and play a little bit. Every night he sleeps behind it leaning back onto the top of his hut. His cage fits in a corner, so he must just feel safest tucked in there. When you call him he will peek out and make a cute little noise.

He's quite a character!

Beemer loves his hut, but sometimes I do catch him hanging on it playing, But he does sleep in it every night. He does like his beak rubbed sometimes but can be testy,

My sun also will jus sleep on top of it.

Oh, I am so glad I read your post!! My 3 month old conure has been sleeping the exact way you describe!!! She obviously likes the snuggle hut because she nibbles at it and cuddles with it, but only sleeps hanging on the side of the cage with her back resting on the outside of the hut. LOL - it was driving me nuts because I couldn't imagine that she could sleep well that way. I was wondering if she needed a smaller one...any thoughts on that? She also likes her beak rubbed and makes mainly quiet little sounds.
