Rabbit or Kitten?

So, I've been thinking for months that I'd like a non feathered family pet, mainly something the kids can enjoy and properly cuddle.

A rabbit who LOVES attention cuddles and kids gas come up Free to good home, with her free hutch. She is not desexed though.

Or...

A black kitten has come up at our local RSPCA shelter, a tom, and he lives kids. He comes desexed, vaccinated, microchipped etc.

I want the kitten more, i like cats when they aren't eating my birds lol. But i dislike rabbits. What would you choose for your children?

Cats hands down, but I could be biased We have two pound kitties and they were trained to leave the birds alone.

In my personal opinion I think rabbits get kinda boring after a while. Maybe I would get the kitten. Although a rabbit would be less likely to eat your birds. But still I'd like the kitten more, and I'd train it to not mess with the birds.

definitely a kitten, even though I own a rabbit as well.
actually we rescued 4 cats, all for different reasons, we love all or our animals, cats are easier to keep.

But thats probably because i think Queensland is literally the only place in the world that bunnies are illegal -_-

I was in NSW last year, and there was this adorable white and grey rabbit... Loved it so much, held it for like 3 days straight hahaha

I would go out and buy a rabbit today if i could :31:



I am not really a cat person, although i do own a cat, she is lovely and SO friendly, i rescued her as a kitten, and she drools on you.. I have never actually seen a cat that loves people and cuddles so much hahaha

She is green peace She sees mice and completely ignores them, and never even looks twice at Fargo!

Hahaha Tab. I think I'll go with the kitten going to see him today, my hubby doesn't know yet but ill just let him know shortly, "Oh yeah, we gotta go out at 2. Gonna have a look at the kitten ;D"

Oh and his adoption fee is only $180! The guy working there said well probably adopt him, coz hes such a nice kitten! He wants to adopt him but if someone else is interested he cant. Poor guy.. But i wants the kitty!

Yeah. Plus microchipping. All that alone here would cost around $200 if not more.

LOL Tab!!! Now i feel mean.. What a cute face.... Haha. Nu.. A friend wants us to call him Greg -_- lol. I'll let hubby choose...since i name all the birds and our kids lol.

You really have to be so careful with a cat when you own birds. However, for children, I think that a cat is cuddlier in the long run as opposed to a bunny. I used to have a bunny and after growing up, you really couldn't cuddle him much and his claws were always so sharp. My son didn't like to hold him. And bunnies poop is really really stinky! Couldn't deal with that again.

Of course, having birds, owning a cat is not an option for me, period. Oh and my son is allergic, so no temptation either

The only pet I wouldn't own with birds is a ferret. I'm surprised do many people think cats and birds can't coexist. I'm so confident of my cats I wouldn't hesitate to leave them out together with me out if the room. My cats pay zero attention to the birds.

On the other hand I wouldn't leave my standard poodle with the birds even short term, not because she would attack them, but because she's like a colt and might squish them.

I have Casper and then a bengal Kitten. I adore them both. I'd go with a kitten!

Uh my brother has a bengal cat...

Had him since he was a kitten, but he just has that wild predator side in him, and he stalks Fargo and would kill him any chance he could get... Just hate the way he watches and prowls around if i have Fargo out on his harness..

Haha. Link is pretty accustomed to Casper, he is only 3mo old and I've been ery slow but determined in their introductions. He really doesn't pay any attention to him.

I love the fact that he has his wild side hehe >

I'd vote for cat only because you have kids. A kitten would make a better pet.

However, I also think bunnies are underrated. They're great because they're ADORABLE, and will eat just about anything, and kids tend to get a kick out of being able to feed their animal, ime cats don't really take treats all that well. It takes more preparation since you need to bunny proof your house, however bunnies are the 3rd most popular pet, and just as overpopulated. I raise meaties, but I still think they deserve a bit more recognition. They're overpopulated as well, and can really make great pets, though they're a bit more boring. When you get them really comfortable, they can be super cute.
Overall, here's the good / bad aspects.

Buns/good:
Sweet, loving
The bunny your looking at is cuddly. Most buns are fine with being pet, but cuddle doesn't suit them.
Overpopulated as well.
Softer than a cat (IMO)
They binky! Ever seen a rabbit binky? Oh, it's too cute!
More willing to eat from the kids, something I've found kids love
Can be litter trained (better when they're spayed)
Won't eat parrots. May attack a parrot if felt threatened, but highly, HIGHLY doubt you'll find a bunny with a taste for parrot
Sharp nails

Buns/bad:
Smellier overall
More proofing of the house
Chew on things (but when you own parrots, its not much of a difference)
Cost more to feed? (They are fed pellets with hay, and veggies As treats)
Not completely litter box proof, but any stray poops are easy to clean, and stray pee isn't that bad

Kittens/good:
Black cats are THE most unwanted cat
Cuddlier
Smell less overall (but the litter box STANKS)
Cute/ sweet
Loving
Litter box trained well!
Have use over their nails
Purrs

Kittens/bad:
VERY sharp claws when used
smelly litter box/smellier feces
Don't binky....
Will attack your birds if not trained properly / kept away. Even a lick could cause issues.
Kittens tend to find homes sooner than rabbits (and rabbits are neglected more often due to mis-information)

Choose wisely, but I'm kinda rooting for the rabbit... Kittens tend to get adopted fairly fast, even if black


Karen: I LOVE ferrets. Used to have a pair when I was younger. Got some last year. Not the same mistake ill make again, not until they have an ENTIRE room they can live in - AND NOT get out of. They killed several chicks, and a pigeon we got rid of them after the pigeon. I loved that pigeon! I still love ferrets, but I want an entire room they live in, can play in, and not get out. 2 doors - the door to the room, and then a door you open after going into the room. Then ill own more. I really do love them, but gaah! They're such predators. I tried to feed them a chick they killed, since raw meat is good for them.. They just looked at it, confused. We fed them some mice. It was HORRIBLE. I don't ever want to watch a ferret eat a mouse again... The mouse was dead, but... Eew.

Ohhh you are soo lucky then Scott! Nesado grew up around birds, but his drive to hunt is still too strong, just too wild He would be about 3 now! This year he had a massive growth, he is SO heavy, you wouldn't think so from looking at him, but hes so tall and solid haha



The only good thing about him is his coat, is a cool pattern hahaha

Its stupid though, i know people who have snuck bunnies and ferrets here -_-
