Over the rainbow bridge:
Green Cheek Conure (Atai)
Atai has been fantastic for the past three months, very friendly with everyone, never bite-y, excited to see me and come out, loves to learn and perform tricks, etc.
I took him to the vet last week and the vet said he was great, toweled him to check him out and everything is perfect. Atai was also very nice to the vet and didn't mind being held in such awkward positions.
So, ever since that vet visit at home, he has been much meaner to everyone but me - yet still isn't super excited to see me like before. He also has decided to poop whenever anyone but me holds him or when he is over clothes or beddings or carpet; he wasn't really trained not to do that, but the routine was take him out in the morning, eat, poop on the playstand, then go out and and about, and he didn't poop again until I put him in his cage, on his cage, on a perch, or when I had him outside.
I'm not sure where all these issues came from - like I said they all started happening after the vet appointment, which he seemed totally content with. Nothing in the household has changed! I might mention that it has been a week since the appointment and things are slowly getting worse.
Today - just now in fact - I moved around the toys and perches in his cage, which I do monthly, and it seemed to have helped a little. Also from the time of my last post to now (3 months?) he has been converted to a Harrison's pellet diet with supplements. He is about 1 year & 9 months old.
Any ideas? Could it just be hormonal?
