Yellow Sided Conure (Sonny)
Hi,

Sorry if this is a silly question but im wondering if the Veggies i give my Yellow Sided Conure (9 weeks) should be given raw or cooked?

Thanks,
Charlie

There is little nutritional difference to raw or cooked veggies, the same way there is little difference between fresh veggies, and ones you buy frozen in bags at the supermarket. For me the only effect is how he prefers eating it, and cooked (because they are generally steamed or boiled) veggies are waterier and make for wetter poops.

Both! Your bird may prefer some veggies raw, and others cooked. Experiment and see what he likes. The whole point is to serve him something he'll actually eat, so let his preferences be your guide.

I would say try both but it depends on how u cook them. Steaming them will be best to not cook away nutrition. If u boil veggies u can see the water change color and that is a loss of nutrition in my eyes. Most my veggies I give r raw but they get steamed sometimes also.

It all depends on your bird's preference .
Anyway I can get my birds to eat their veggies is the best way IMO :)

Yeup, it depends on the bird and the veggie. Some fruit or veg will have to be cooked to be eaten comfortably (rutabaga, beans, etc) others can be slices finely raw (beets, carrots) and some are best raw, straight up (brocolli, green beans).

My bird will only eat cooked veggies for some reason. Guess they have preferences just like we do.
