I was picking up the dogs some pressed rawhide bones today and wondering if they would be safe for the parrots??

I know that Dawg has stold some of the rawhide pieces on Merlins toys. I have several toys that have them. Probably not the real juicy ones, could they be contaminated?

One of Pi's toys has rawhide slices on it. Does that help?

I used to see toys all the time with rawhide, but I haven't in a long time... So I thought I would ask, as you never know what has changed when it comes to safe in the parrot world... ;)

Yeah I was kind of surprised when I saw it. I never would have considered rawhide as a bird toy.

i have seen the toys with it and asked my vet and he said he has dealt with a bird that had an obstruction from it

When I was a vet tech we had a puppy that had a rawhide obstruction. You have to make your pet isn't actually swallowing pieces of rawhide because it will glue itself together in their gut and sometimes cannot be passed.

Rawhide is known to swell, pressed rawhide doesn't swell and is safe to consume... for dogs anyway.
