Re: Diatomaceous earth

Has anyone used this with their birds? in their feed, water or bath water? I know that the chicken owners use it and swear by it. Some use it for their horses, but I need to know from some bird experts if this is safe.
thank you.

Re: Diatomaceous earth

I have used DE powder for dogs, cats and the bird cages. It helps with fleas, ticks. If you feed it to the cats and dogs...helps with worming. I suspected mites with my birds and placed the powder in the bottom drawer of the cages and around the base boards. Need to be very careful regarding inhalation and near eyes etc and when feeding, use sparingly. I just do it monthly in the summer months. From what I have read....you can powder your chickens and their nesting boxes. I have used it outside in the dog run for ticks and in the cat beds. Super stuff and it works.

Thanks for your responses. I'm just always weary on what to add to my birds environment and diet. I think I will add it to the lower catch tray tho. I just fear the bug issue.
thanks!
And I'll add it the chicken pen too.
