Hi, I adopted this cute little Amazon and was told she is a red headed Mexican Amazon. But I noticed there is no blue on the sided of her head like I seen in some pictures. She is also very small and has almost red eyes. Any ideas ?

She is AMAZING !! Ive never seen one before . Now you got me curious :). I don't think its one of the ones you posted. Neat theirs so many different kinds of amazons.Maybe Henpecked will know :).

Yes she is differed from all the pictures I seen. Also she has a dark colored bill with brownish red eyes.

No, neither a Mexican nor a Spectacled (they have bone colored beaks and this one has a black one). I really do not know what species this parrot is, looks a bit like a Pileated and a bit like a Lilacine...

No, I don't think so. The Cherry headed conure has a horn colored bill. Hers is dark colored and her body does look like a Amazon.

Whoa nevermind. I was kind of sleepy and I didn't notice the black beak.

Beautiful Amazon you got there. :)

I'd say he's a Lilacine Amazon. Look at these pictures for comparison. :)

Beautiful !!! That's pretty dang close

I have a stupid question, but could you take more pictures of it?

They look very similar but mine has a lot more red on her head. Could she be a hybrid ?

I'm thinking that Justin of Bird Heaven Aviaries might be able to determine if this zon is pure or hybrid. He has apparently had a lot of experience with some of the rarer species of amazons kept within captivity.

Although there are some other people I could ask as well!

I'm thinking a possible hybrid, or possibly a bird that isn't in full color due to diet and/or lighting???

yeah, i'm not sure about the species. Most zons from the Mexican red Head,Green Cheek,RLA 's area have the white/light/bone colored beak and feet. That dark beak has BFA look to it, but don't see other clues. I vote hybrid but at a loss to say what the parents where. Let me think on it.Where is it from? Could it be a feral bird?Got any more pics? Open wing?

I think it must have some Lilacine Amazon, from straight on it looks almost identical until you realize how much more red it has.

Thank you all for your responds. I will try to make more pictures of her. I bought her in Wi. And don't know anything about her. She is also very tame and loving.
