So I guess I caved in and got a second bird after all.:o
Ever since Remi spent some time at the bird sitter and enjoyed the company of her birds, I have thought about a new addition. Well, the cockatiel we spotted in the petstore did not happen as he looked sick and I didn't want to take a chance with Remi getting something. I browsed Craigslist last week just for the heck of it, and wouldn't you know, there were three ads for conures. The first one that responded we got in touch with, and so here we go, we have - Petey!
Petey is a cinnamon green cheek conure about the same age as Remi, and had to find another home because their new dog wouldn't leave him alone.
Petey is very people oriented and a really nice bird. For now, their cages are away from each other so they can get used to seeing each other. They did share fruit on the kitchen counter, but they also bickered over my shoulder.
So, we'll see. Too early to say.
For those who ventured with a second bird, how did it go?
Will Remi and Petey ever be friends? I ordered another flight cage as I think they really need to live in separate cages. (Petey is in a smaller cage now)

Congratulations on Petey!

I have 4 conures and am about to add another. Mine don’t all get along, some love each other, some don’t. I agree that they’re better to have their own living quarters. My cages are all in the same room so that are familiar with each other, and I can have most of them out together but I keep an eye on them (I know who is likely to squabble). We have multiple play stands, perches and play areas hanging from the ceiling so that they don’t have to share space if they don’t want to. You’ll be surprised how quickly you adapt your time to suit what works for them. They may end up liking each other, but even if they don’t - you’ll learn how to juggle :). They train us well.....

My two conures can't stand the sight of each other and will actively seek each other out to fight. Echo my standard GCC couldn't care less about any other bird being out with him. Bring out Ari my other GCC and it's on for young and old. You just never know how it will go. So they get different times out of the cage.

Pretty much all my birds are only out solo because they just don't get along. Only two of my birds get along out of the five that are tame. Never know how things will go with adding another bird.

They are both so people oriented that I am a bit worried they see each other as competition.
We'll see...

We also ordered a DNA test for Petey just to know for sure his gender. His previous owner got him as a baby about five years ago and the breeder told her a male. So, I want to check for sure.
Remi is DNA proven male.
So Petey is about five years old and Remi is about three or four. I didn't want a baby bird, I wanted a mature bird that needed a home. Although, now it may be more difficult to accept each other, being two old guys set in their ways, lol.
