renaming a 2 yr old congo

Hi all, new to the board. I am rescuing a 2 year old male congo in a few weeks, and his name is the same as my ex. I'd really like to change it - is it too late, and would a 3-syllable name be too much? Thank you!

You can change it to whatever you want, really. A name is simply a trained behavior. If it makes you feel better you can make the melee name similar to the old name.

We did this. My ekkie came named Porker...that had to go. So we named him Parker.

We have kept many names, and changed a few. When we did change a name, we put the old name at the end and then eventually dropped the old name...for example, Dexter's name was Rollie, and we called him DexterRollie for the longest time, then just called him Dexter.

What a clever way to make a name change. Well done. Sometimes I think Perjo might think her name is baby or poop monster b/c I call her that so much. I actually have to limit how often I can her that come to think of it.

Haha! I do exactly the same thing, somehow we gave my GCC the nickname Green Green, and he says it all the time! He still know his name is Jax, but can only say Green Green.
About the name change, I had read that somewhere so can't take the credit for it
