Rio my first Irn, drew blood :/.

Hi. I've had Rio for a week now he's 3 months old. Seems to be settling in great wouldn't come near me at start. He'll happily take treats out of,y hand and has just started to walk on to my hand to get his treats. He sometimes bites/beaks my hand before doing this /:. He drew blood twice, I'm not sure how to tell if he is biting me or breaking me though cause even after drawing blood he just stood there and took the treat he didn't seem angry. Hoping someone will be able to tell me the diffrence as I dont want to give him the treat if he is biting. Thanks .

If you are giving him treats after he bites you, you're unconsciously rewarding him for this behaviour. If he isn't gentle taking the treat, then he shouldn't be receiving one to put it very simply. My IRN will often try to lunge and try to very forcefully remove a treat from my hand, so if he tries I simply put him away and no treat for him. I also ask him to be gentle when I give him a treat, and if I communicate that I'm willing to give it to him if he takes it appropriately it works. I've found communication with this species to be exceptionally important in maintaining a healthy relationship.

Okay thank you. I talk to him gently when I put my hands in the cage to give him a treat. Hopefully he won't do it again. Thanks for the advise.
