sun conure, green cheek conure
My sun conure died last night. I wasn't there, but from what I understand is that he got tangled in his toys last night, and strangled to death. My heart is breaking. He was only 4 years old, and he was an amazing little birdie. :orange:

I am so upset. The other issue I have, is that he was living with another bird a gcc. Now I'm afraid Boo will miss Gonzo (the sun conure)... Do you guys think he will be okay without him, or I need to get him a new cage mate?

awww i am so sorry for your loss,

what kind of toy was it?

as for a cage mate, see how your gcc is, as there is a chance it may not accept another bird

This is so sad. If you can please post a photo of the toy so that others may be cautious.

I am so sorry to hear this....big hugs

Omg. I'm SO sorry for your loss. What a terrible accident. :(

I'm very sorry you lost your sun. Give yourself & your gcc some time, you will know if you both need another bird. Definitely send pictures of the toys, it may help some one else.

How terribly sad, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear that. A bird that is tangled will struggle themselves to death, if their foot gets caught, they will even chew their own foot off to be free from the toy. Please do take a photo of the toy and contact the manufacture company of the specific toy and let them know what happened. I'm very cautious when purchasing toys for my birds cause my Macaw got his foot caught in one of the toys and couldn't get out of it. Good thing my partner was home when it happened and I took off from work ASAP and free him from the toy. I took before and after picture then I contacted Kaytee, who made the toy, and e-mailed them the pictures and they apologized to me and sent me a big box of treats and toys for Willie. They were very prompt and took ALL the toys that I had off the market. But I do see other companies making the same toy....It's the big peanut shaped plastic toy that you put peanuts in for them to retrieve. I busted the toy in pieces and dispose of it, I was not very happy...Willie was freaked out for the rest of the night and I had to baby his foot for a bit....

Oh, I'm soo sorry!

Toni

sorry to hear about that...... i know how you feel losing a bird...lost peanut over 4 yrs ago i still get upset about it when i see pics or see some one with a yellow nape amazon i grew up with peanut for 20 yrs... since 8 yrs old i am now almost 31 in 3 days...

Well my birds live at my boyfriend's house. His parents did not explain well enough, so when I got there Saturday they showed me what he was tangled in. He got stuck in his sleep tent. Apparently this was the third tent my birds have gone through. The bottom was a bit shredded, I didn't have time to take a picture. (My boyfriend's sister gave the birds to me.)
Here is a link to a sleep tent much like mine, minus the shredding. I am so sad that my poor little birdie passed away. I miss him so so much.
Sleep tents help you make sure that you parrot gets enough sleep at night.
It's funny, because this looks just like my bird.
I'm afraid of all the bird toys as now they seem potentially hazardous to my bird's health and the other birds in the house.

My GCC doesn't like me much. He literally charges at me. I hope he can grow to trust and like me even a little. My sun conure was bonded to me.

I am so extremely sorry to hear about your loss.

Lots of love,
Maria

Oh my gosh! I'm horrified now! I just bought one of those for my 3 month old yellow sided GCC..he absolutely LOVES IT! It looks so harmless, safe and comfy, I can't believe this happened.

I'm not going to take his happy hut away from him, but I'll definitely be more dilligent about checking it for fraying and damage.

I'm so sad for you...

Toni

Wow! :-( I don't know what to say, so sorry!

Oh no...that's terrible! I'm so sorry! =(

My mom's lovebird has a tent almost exactly like that. I'll make sure to let her know to watch out for it.
