Has anyone tried this?

Earlier my husband was asking me if there isn't a way to have moving water under a cage to wash away waste. Maybe have the grate resting an inch over a recycled water source that kept a steady current? It sounds doable with a good water pump, but what do you all think?

Here's the thing about it, they would toss food down there, fecal matter, feathers, etc. That would clog your drain or plumbing you plan on using. Plus it's highly likely for you to have mold issue. Which that's not good for the bird either. Cause I'm sure you'll be recycling the water otherwise you'll go through a ton of water. Plus in order to keep the water sanitized you have to put some bleach or vinegar in the water itself. I'm sure you don't want the bleach smell around your bird but constantly smelling vinegar isn't pleasant either...lol

I agree with the mold issue, running water will make the environment damper and raise a real risk for aspergillosis.

Both Mike & Copper are right about the mold growth potential. that fecal soup would also be a prime breeding ground for bacteria & disease.....

Theres another issue too...you'll get the constant urge to pee every time you get near the sound of running water ;)

Dang Goaler, I thought that said 'senior member' not senior citizen under your name/ID.......

Monica, thanks! I'll look into it and see what the reviews have to say. Thank you all for your input, I'll talk with my husband and see if it's something we'll look into, keeping in mind all the aforementioned issues.

I personally would still be against it. By having fish tank for years I know how easily mold starts to grow around where there's water. I clean them up often with bleach wipes and they always re-appear. Then there's the algae issue too.

Welcome! I remember when I first heard about the aquaclean, a lot of people were confused. Not many people were interested due to the price, and there was worry about it getting clogged. I don't know if they have made any changes to the system and am surprised they are still being made! I mean, after all, not many people are aware of them!

I wonder if there would be a way to help prevent mold by adding something to the water? Bleach, ACV and GSE come to mind... although I don't know if that would cause any problems for the machine, and one certainly wouldn't want to use a large concentration of any of them.

I've known of this system for several years now (can't recall how many years ago I first saw it), so I already knew of it! And knew what to look for to find it again! Nothing special! :)

Or you could just put the birds in a fish tank and provide scuba gear.

Yeah, I can see that...and name them something like seal recruit #1 & seal chief #3, etc., etc., etc.....
