I'd have gathered the "trade" was restricted or prohibited especially in the US. Sadly it has been going on for awhile (exotic trade). It appears that Australia has lifted a 25 year ban on importing. Maybe others wil chime in. There are just conditions that ought to be followed, though it's anything but.

There are still imported birds here---it's harder than it used to be to just buy them (like you could at most pet stores in the 80s) BUT, they do have some protections in place in the USA (not fool-proof, but intended to ban/discourage this stuff).

Always very distressing to see that this kind of thing is still happening in some parts of the world. Regardless of whether legal trade in birds between Indonesia and Australia or anywhere else has started up again, THIS sort of trafficking is very much illegal and is definitely has nothing to do with any government sanctioned trade, and very sadly the fate of birds found in these circumstances is by no means assured. As horrific as this is, it seems there will always be people desperate enough to supply the inhumane demand.

Totally agree of LEGAL trading and whether or not it started again. Fortunately, while there is guidelines/standards to follow in the practice, these cases are rare and only few want to take advantage and abuse. This happens a LOT in the exotic world and I've known about the infamous exotics in South Florida.

Very true! I appreciated the differences of legal vs illegal differences of the practice. Fortunately there are many who follow the regulations and guidelines the RIGHT way.
