Oliver and Mia got in a tousle about half an hour-an hour ago.I didn't realize Oliver was bleeding until he flew over to me and drops of blood got on my fingers and the bed sheets. So i rushed downstairs and put cornstarch all over his bite and it stopped bleeding. Is there anything else I should do? He hold his foot up when resting because it hurts but other than that is acting normal and eating/drinking/cuddling.

It was just such a shock to see that blood I was very confused for a few seconds when I saw it.

Do you have an avian vet? If the bite was enough to draw blood it might have done damage. I would take him to the vet.

I honestly don't think it was so bad as to warrant that, however I'll be keeping a close eye on him. He is still using it a lot to crawl, hop, and climb around so I don't *think* there's any nerve damage or anything. There's no loose skin, the bite was near the end of a toe and the bleeding was easy to stop with a bit of cornstarch, it was just a very shocking situation for me

I'll be sure to let you guys know if anything new happens.

I was wondering though, Mia's beak seems a lot sharper than Oliver's, her bites carry less force but still break skin more often. Is this a sign of overgrown beak? Her beak isn't longer just pretty sharp!

It depends on how much chewing they do, I have Green cheeks that chew a lot and have pretty smooth beaks and one that hardly chews, his is pretty sharp.

That is scary! i remember the first week i had Rosie and she broke a primary blood feathe, suddenly seeing blood on your hand is very shocking! You can always file down the beaks a little to dull them.

Poor Oliver! Knowing that the bite comes from Mia, I doubt it's anything serious. You stopped the bleeding and that's really all you can do. No it doesn't mean her beak is overgrown.....just well groomed

Thanks guys, y'all have made me feel much better! I spent all day repotting/disinfecting all of our indoor plants and all of my orchids because my mom used some old bug infested soil for her amaryllis -.- I didn't want to use pesticides in case oliver decided to eat up my orchids again so I had to go through everything and kind of start from scratch.

Anyways after I finished I had a shower with Oliver and hung out with him a bit and all seems to still be very good with him, there's not even any noticeable swelling or anything, he is just a little ginger with it as expected.

I agree it's best to keep it dry once clotted.

Instead of cornstarch you really should get some Styptic Powder (Kwik Stop) which has some Benzocaine in it to help with minor pain. It could have relieved him a bit.....for next time....

Oh he wasn't in the shower with me, he just hangouts above haha. But thanks for letting me know. I'll get some kwik stop for sure

It does the job of stopping the blood, however the Benzocaine in Kwik Stop helps with PAIN as well.
