Has anyone else noticed that their budgies will scream their heads off for no apparent reason? Skye does it for attention if we don’t respond to his demands fast enough, but Sunny has taken to shrieking for no reason. I thought it was life or death, like a cat was somehow in the room with that scream, and nope, he’s just screeching for no reason. No calling first, just outright screaming his head off. He has new food, new water, and was out for over an hour before I put him back. Opened the door, opened the cage, no reaction except for a questioning head tilt when I came in the room. Nothing cooking, so no new smells at the moment. Could something outside have frightened him through windows, and black out curtains?

My Budgies make lots of happy noise. They only time they "scream" alarm call is if their is a fight, or a hawk or buzzard or snake or cat out the window....
Now their normal noise can reach a loud pitch. But not screaming... So I'm not sure??

Oliver does that sometimes, but it's usually not an "I'm terrified" scream. I think some of the hollering in parakeets is normal, other times due to seeking attention, playing, being frightened or a medical reason.

It could be your two guys are calling to eachother. They have a strong flock instinct. Hopefully they can share a cage after their vet checks.

They do call to each other but this was different. I haven’t heard this particular level of intensity. Sunny sounded truly terrified. I thought for sure a cat somehow got in and was trying to eat Sunny. But then I get there and he just cocks his head a bit and looks at me for a moment before preening his wings.

Maybe he startled himself? I’m not sure what caused it, but it hasn’t happened since.

They will definitely be sharing a cage once Skye gets to the vet. Sunny went last weekend and is healthy!

Well, just my two conure-cents...

The Rb screams his lungs out at dawn, lunch, and dusk, apparently just from the sheer joy of living. It also happens suddenly when he rediscovers the virtues of a certain toy, or his pellets, or, the sun, or...

I try to take a philosophical attitude and just hope it means he's healthy and happy...

I don’t mind the screaming when it doesn’t sound like he’s absolutely terrified. They frequently call back and forth to each other and Skye will call out for us, then gets to his angry screech when he decides it’s taking us to long to jump and do his bidding. [emoji23]
