Airports I fly through are at about half normal capacity. Plane to San Diego is 3/4 empty.

Thank you tabloid journalism!

And that is with the flights that the airlines have already cut!
The highways and byways are also less congested, especially on weekends.

And, with amazingly poor timing, Russian Government has cut cruel oil prices by up to 25% as a play to take customer's away from Opec! Just as international use is declining.

Happy to hear that you can stretch-out my friend!
Enjoy!

Governments around the world are struggling to cope with the numbers. Hospitals simply don't have the capacity to cope with those who need care in terms of oxygen and assisted breathing. Italy is currently at their wits end. It might seem like an overblown scare story to you yet but it looks as though it's on it's way to you too and once it takes hold the numbers explode too fast.
Here in UK they are trying to contain it. A waste of time, so now they will start to try to delay the peak until hopefully the hospitals are less busy. It doesn't look good and for Government reps to look quite so serious suggests we aren't being told just how bad it could be. My advice would be not to be complacent just because Trumps etc doesn't look worried. If it gets anywhere near him or Government they will disappear down a bunker somewhere. Here they expect as many as 8/10 people to be infected and if you have underlying health issues there is not a lot of hope.

This has me more than concerned..When I read about the "quaranteen building" in China collapsing  it freaked me out to say the least,as this virus seems to be running rampant there..and now the cruise liners on high alert and with cases being found here in the States..I'm a "senior" now :o with a bad ticker. Glad I'm not a traveler and stick close to home :52:

I don't see it as sensationalism
I see as risk assessment.
I do t know how many warnings it's going to take for people at risk , over sixty, or with health issues, to stop travel, stop crowds, to prevent deaths.....
It isn't just individuals
Corporation are limiting movement if staff, as are universities, healthcare professional
And government's are limiting staff
As is entertainment, and sports
So they are risk mitigating as well

I'm over 60 and traveling and I don't see the risk. It absolutely is sensationalism and fear mongering. Almost 8 billion people on this planet. Is it a good idea not to go on a cruise...sure...cruises have always been breeding grounds for contagion but to suggest that people not go about their lives while taking normal flu precautions is just over the top.

Meanwhile my hubby is (was?) going to Dallas for a big conference in May and I have to admit I wouldn’t mind if it got cancelled. He’s got a heart condition and I worry about him so if it got canned it would suit me just fine :)

We have been told that it is infectious by coughs sneezes saliva etc. If you sneeze into your hand and then touch a shop door or handrail, car door or any number of other hard surfaces, anyone coming after you and then touching their eyes/nose/mouth - and we all do all the time without thinking - will catch in the next 72 hours. That's how long it lives on hard surfaces. On soft surfaces fabric etc it is shorter.
We are told to wash our hands for at least 20 secs with soap, or use hand sanitise of at least 60% alcohol frequently. I am cleaning my hands every hour during the day and being very careful about not touching my face.
The biggest problem is that no-one has immunity. This is not flu! That's just the easy name to give it. Some people have been found to have no symptoms even though they have it spread it around unconsciously. This is something where we need to think about others as much as ourselves.

Italy has now put the whole country under lock down. They are getting overwhelmed. My son in law was going to Geneva for work and that is now cancelled. We expect the peak at Easter - April 12th - but that is still guess work.
They say 3 months from the first cases to reach a peak and 3 months to subside. What they don't know yet is if those who get it have an immunity.

The UK is obviously a much smaller land mass than USA so your situation will be different from us but in high populated areas it will spread like crazy.

actually, it "lives" up to 9 days on non-porous surfaces in ideal conditions....

That's why it is so important for people to try and build up their immune systems, since there is of yet no vaccine. First thing I do after being out is wash my hands. Now I'm trying to eat better for better immunity. As far as risk is concerned, there is risk with any virus/illness. I take the flu vaccine every year because the flu means serious health risks, and coronavirus has proven it does too.

It's a numbers game, even low estimate over whelmed hospital, how many beds are available, plus 1 in 10 hospital staff have been getting sick, removing them from the work force, works leaders are getting sick, complications like that.
Plus while older folks die, younger folks still get pneumoia complications required hospital stay and Oxygen support. The other thread is packed with facts, scientific studies, epidemiologist, and what actually happens when get sever acute respiratory syndrome from this virus. As well as CDC and WHO warning, doctors please ECT...

As all opinions have value, I will stay out of your thread after this.

I work with the Government, nobody that I work with is limiting staff or travel. There are a few large companies which have travel restrictions but those are to China and Italy, not domestic. Also, there is at least one big company who is restricting some domestic travel but that is only for it's VP's and higher. Another company requires approval for anyone paid directly by the company but anyone who is on a contract who will get paid by that contract if they are on travel and quarantined is authorized to travel. So everything I see right now is for financial reasons.

As for using the word "Pandemic" it obviously keeps people glued to the TV.

Yes we were the same, let's hope you can maintain the current situation. They are now preparing us gradually for eventual restrictions in the next couple of weeks. Good luck. Our impression of the USA's reaction is that it is very laid back in the light of the experience in other countries.

The sad part of all of this is that the US News Media didn't have a single bit of interest until they saw the chance to play this 'over the top.'

As they lost one subject line, they stumbled into this one! When they found 'likely stumbled over' a way of spinning-up the population they ran with it! Lots of complaints about the lack of clear up-dates over this last weekend, but there was no shortage is rumor, created fear, and finger-pointing regarding the Virus sources and why the government was attempting to downplay it.

And, over this last weekend, the word "Pandemic" was added to the mix to bring anxiety to the masses! Too with malice, bring stress to the masses. All to increase viewership! Pure Sensationalism!

When a sampling of the different National News Outlets is suffered though, one quick comes to see that there is no interest in providing accurate information... Not even the basic means of limiting ones exposure... Its all about pushing fear rapped around Sensationalism, and maximizing viewership...

Reality Check!!!
- This is a Dangerous Virus that was sourced from China. Highly likely from their BioLab. Zero Point was 4 to 6 individuals (likely a family and/or very close friends) who daily visited the Wet Market...
- News regarding the breakout of the Virus was withheld approximately five weeks, which allow the Virus to spread rapidly in that city /region and beyond by early January.
- North American sciences in that area picked-up rumors of a new Virus that was spreading rapidly and they rang the alarm back to North America. The seriousness of the spread of the Virus resulted in the early shutdown of flights into the US.
- The serious lack of insightful information was caused by North America /World staff not be provided accurate and timely information and Virus DNA for testing. As a result, the vast majority of the World did not shutdown flights until along after North America...

I'm not going back and present the information that has been well detailed in the other Thread. That can be easily read and understood as near all of that information is point of source based.

I will not participate in the fear mongering and out and out lying as seen in the National News Media, which are now 96% into driving high-levels of stress, which steals from our health and blinds us from following fundamental methods of prevention.

So, slowdown... Understand your risks based on your health, age and location. Add to your basic stores, 'your medication needs' and access your exposure tolerance and act accordingly. Avoid creating unnecessary stress in yourself, you family and friends...

After all, minor changes in our activities will greatly reduce one's exposure... Use them!!!

Sorry, But no level of fear is going to stop idiots from being stupid and doing stupid stuff near you.
