Airports I fly through are at about half normal capacity. Plane to San Diego is 3/4 empty.

Meanwhile my hubby is (was?) going to Dallas for a big conference in May and I have to admit I wouldn’t mind if it got cancelled. He’s got a heart condition and I worry about him so if it got canned it would suit me just fine![]()
We have been told that it is infectious by coughs sneezes saliva etc. If you sneeze into your hand and then touch a shop door or handrail, car door or any number of other hard surfaces, anyone coming after you and then touching their eyes/nose/mouth - and we all do all the time without thinking - will catch in the next 72 hours. That's how long it lives on hard surfaces. On soft surfaces fabric etc it is shorter.
We are told to wash our hands for at least 20 secs with soap, or use hand sanitise of at least 60% alcohol frequently. I am cleaning my hands every hour during the day and being very careful about not touching my face.
The biggest problem is that no-one has immunity. This is not flu! That's just the easy name to give it. Some people have been found to have no symptoms even though they have it spread it around unconsciously. This is something where we need to think about others as much as ourselves.
actually, it "lives" up to 9 days on non-porous surfaces in ideal conditions....
sI'm over 60 and traveling and I don't see the risk. It absolutely is sensationalism and fear mongering. Almost 8 billion people on this planet. Is it a good idea not to go on a cruise...sure...cruises have always been breeding grounds for contagion but to suggest that people not go about their lives while taking normal flu precautions is just one over the top.

I work with the Government, nobody that I work with is limiting staff or travel. There are a few large companies which have travel restrictions but those are to China and Italy, not domestic. Also, there is at least one big company who is restricting some domestic travel but that is only for it's VP's and higher. Another company requires approval for anyone paid directly by the company but anyone who is on a contract who will get paid by that contract if they are on travel and quarantined is authorized to travel. So everything I see right now is for financial reasons.
As for using the word "Pandemic" it obviously keeps people glued to the TV.
