If a normal grey male and pearl female cockatiel have normal grey babies, is this a way to determine the gender of the babies? Thanks

Yes, if grey you can look at them under their wings. If no dots, half way or partial way, it's a male, if all the way up and down then it's a female. Otherwise you just have to wait until they start to change once they start to mature. I am usually pretty good at sexing them.

If you mated a pearl male to a normal female, then all offspring could be sexually identified while in the nest.

All females will be pearls.

All males will be normals split pearls.

Now if you mated a normal male with a pearl female, all offspring would be normal, males split pearl.

The wing method isn't 100% accurate, but it may be an indication.

here is my normal whiteface male-8-ball(trust me his name is very fitting)possibly split pied
here is my hen Angus Lutino Pearl Pied(I raised her at 3 days old) mom rejected the chicks

I have 3 chicks- all will be split to w/f
two have yellow crowns, the other one has a grey crown(possibly pied by looking at the pins coming in)

8-ball

Angus

babies

I would say that 8-ball is a Whiteface split pied and Angus is a pearl pied. (no lutino gene in there)

Chicks appear to be two pieds and a normal?

Trying to get your head around it is like mathematics!! Lovely photos Beth.
