Sexually Mature?

I usually hear estimates of 1-2 years, but just like people, it can vary! The best indication is behavioral...

Birdie is 3, but I haven't noticed any behavioral changes. Hmmm.

Has Birdie been DNA tested? And are you certain of Birdie's age, meaning did you get him as a baby or did you adopt him from someone else? I'm just checking all of the standard things that can confuse the "puberty" timing with a bird's owners...

As Gail said, each bird is an individual, so maybe Birdie did go through puberty but it didn't effect him as much as other birds, or maybe it hasn't happened yet and Birdie is just a late-bloomer...though at 3 for a Sun Conure I would think it has happened already, if he's really 3...

Well my sun conure Ollie is 2 and he has shown zero signs of sexual maturity other than this spring he regurgitated about 6 times to me and then didn't want to cuddle for a week. I'm hoping that was it!

Sounds just like it, though the "short version" of it...

Boomer's sexual maturity occurred at about 3.25 years old. His hormones raged till he was about 3.75 years old then it tapered off after that. He still exhibits sexual behavior on some objects but his behavior is not crazy like it was during that initial phase. If Birdie is 3 with no hormonal rages, then that's very good! It's either his hormonal behavior is very mild, he hasn't reached it yet or he is past the stage in which case, like Ellen, I wonder if his age of 3 is accurate (i.e., could be older?).

Got her at 4 months old from a local breeder, so she was 3 in December. No eggs laid or other unusual behavior. Had her DNA sexed at my vet's right after I got her. Got the certificate and everything. Guess I've been lucky.

Cheers to hoping that was it! Lol.:orange: Ollie is an angel and always behaves and I mean always! It's actually weird to me how behaved he is because it's actually not normal lol. It would be "sooo Ollie" for that to have been it. But who knows maybe be because he's such a good boy he might in a couple years time go crazy with hormones...that would just about makes sense.
