Beau 20 year old male Green Cheek || Jimmy Bullet 17 year old female white cap pionus parrot
This morning, I made a new batch of quinoa mash for my green cheek, and put some in Jimmy's bowl too, just as I have for the last couple months.

Only today... she took a bite! Her eyes pinned and she ate it all! This is a bird who will run in terror from peanut butter, apples, grapes, pizza crust - all the yummy bad-for-you things that normal birds are addicted to!

To make sure this wasn't a fluke, I gave her more for dinner. It's gone. She's dunking it in her water and everything. I think it's a go :D

Great news :)! It feels good when they start eating something good for them. Yay for Jimmy girl! Actually, I've never exposed my birds to "bad" food, so that when they get offered a little taste of peanut butter or human foods, they will usually turn their nose up lol!

Muahaha, like parents who tell their children that raisins and prunes are candy!

The quinoa is great because of the massive amount of healthy things I can hide in it.

She's refeathering now, so I am hoping this extra nutrition gets her nice and bright and fluffy again.

That's fantastic! I bet you were smiling from ear to ear:) Pisces is going through a hard moult right now too, I can't wait until it's finished.

Gotta be persistent and keep offering the good stuff. They'll keep ignoring or tossing it overboard, but one day something changes!

It's a great day in deed when reluctant beaks take us up on an offer of the good stuff, especially the super foods like quinoa! I admit I cracked up at the thought of Jimmy running in terror from foods most parrots crave. There's a few foods I've consistently served for months before my flock finally gave in and tasted them, persistence is eventually rewarded in most cases.

Yay Jimmy! I'm so glad she's doing better. Its so exciting when they finally take to something that you've been offering forever.

I sprouted some quinoa for my BCC and he was not a fan. What do you do to make the "mash" ?

I just gave my little guy some organic scrambled eggs. He loved it. He too is a picky bird.

I cook the quinoa in organic dandelion root tea and turmeric, and when it is done I add veg, spices, and hemp hearts. You can mix sprouts in too when served.
