@ jenphilly no, i dont. i was planning to, but i thought it would be too much stress on my lovie

not even in the cat,
scary typo! :D

Budgies are great. If he's a budgie, you'll still love him.

I totally did not see that typo and even rereading my post, took me twice thru, knowing what I meant was what I kept hearing in my head!! In the cat, in the cage, so close :)

We have 4 cats and having cats and birds depends on the cats and the birds. We have 2 cats who truly could care less about the birds, don't even look their way when they fly by their heads. Trinity, who was a feral kitten, is a bit more interested, but she is such a little freak that just saying her name loud she jumps and hides for a day. Our 4th is the youngest and she's 90% safe, does not seek out the birds, but if she is laying in the sun by the window or door and one of our birds ends up on the ground in front of her, you can see she has that moment of 'oh boy free dinner' then she stops herself. But, I don't trust her unwatched, she has been with us since she was 8 weeks old and raised that birds are not toys, but when one bounces across the floor like a toy, think its hard for her to tell the difference!! The birds are never out unsupervised because of that.

But with all that said, our two older cats (both 6+ years) and just amazing cats... well for those 2, they have had birds land on them and they kinda give us the look of 'really, this is embarrassing, little help here, could you please get this feathered pest'... Our tiniest bird, a little female pineapple green cheek who thinks she is a large dominating hawk, will actually chase the cats off the back of the sofa or away from you if she is hanging out and wants full attention. And those two cats obey everytime, really should get a video of it one time. Monkey is tiny and our big gray guy Travolta is a large male (not fat, just a tall big cat), and all the birds like to chase his tail when he sits and flicks it about. On the other hand, the biggest bird in the house is terrified of the cats, and we can't help but laugh when a cat jumps on the sofa and Ivory literally runs across everyone to get to the far end from the cat, note she doesn't fly, she looks like a little roadrunner.

Having cats and birds is possible, but you need to be super vigilant, even after you think the cat is not a bird watcher.

Some birds are often so terrified that they appear friendly when in reality they are "scared stiff". Once they start settling in and realizing they aren't going to be killed, they start standing up for themselves and being less afraid to tell you to back off or to try and hide.

Their favorite foods or treats can be used to work with them.

Considering that budgies are known as lovebirds in some parts of the world, it's not your fault you didn't know! :)

I no longer have my budgies, but the videos show an experiment I was trying. They were 4 adult, flighted budgies. I wanted to see how comfortable to get them with me as they were not tame.It worked out so well I had a cockatiel who wanted to be fed by hand, and then another cockatiel... and over time even my most skittish cockatiel was flying to my hand!

It's pretty easy to start gaining their trust. :)
