Mango the Cockatiel; Kiwi the Green Cheek Conure; Skittles RIP
For th past few days, my two birds, a conure and a cockatiel (both babies), have been getting into each other’s cage and making themselves comfortable. Should I be concerned and try to stop this or is there nothing to worry about?

If they are attacking each other, separate them. If they don’t mind, let them be :)

I’ll never forget when Flick, my little GCC started breaking in to the cage of a pair of Pionus. Given the size difference and the fact that it was a bonded pair, I expected bloodshed. For weeks she would find a way in every time I turned my back. Eventually, Sam and Lady didn’t seem to mind, I just gave up. They pretty much shared a cage from then on and all 3 used Flick’s cage as a playground once she taught the Pionus how to be real parrots, but that’s a whole different story :)

They’re very cautious right now. One will stay on top while the other one visits. The conure, who is younger, is definitely more of a bully. He’ll charge Mango but I’m not sure yet if he’s meaning to play. They are 100% supervised when together. I just don’t want them to feel territorial and then get aggressive with each other.

Just keep an eye out and as long as things stay civil it should be fine :)

My birds go into each others’ cages as well. Kermit has a habit of stealing other birds’ food. Pearl has recently taken a liking to Bluebell’s cage. I wouldn’t be worried unless they’re showing aggressive behavior toward each other, although it can be annoying to be constantly retrieving birds from places they’re not supposed to be in.

As long as you're very vigilant and ready to leap into action to supervise, I'm only a LITTLE BIT worried (but I'm The Queen of Paranoia!).
Plus, it sounds as cute as all get-out!

They’re slowly getting used to each other. I’m hoping they become friends.

Recommended? No. No one can predict how two different birds, especially of two different species, will interact. They may be fine for years and one day one bird suddenly changes and the other gets hurt.

Possible? Yes. My first cockatiel and conure (a cherry head - so ~3 times the size of your green cheek!) became cage buddies. Casey was 6 months old at the time where-as Noel, the conure, was at least 9-11 years old, if not older. Casey wouldn't take a *NO* from anyone and persisted. Eventually, Noel accepted Casey and they did fine together. I decided I was willing to take the risks, in case Casey ever got hurt, and allowed them to live together. Noel never harmed Casey and he eventually passed on due to his health issues. Casey has never been that close to any other bird since.
