Should I get him?

I like Duce! And Ranger is cool too =D

Okay, so here's another question for you all. Lol. Okay, so this is his second day here and I haven't taken him out or touched him. I've only been going in the room he's in to change out his food and water. I looked down at the bottom of the cage and all the poops are basically in the same spot. Also, he always in the same place when I come in. Is this part of him adjusting? I thought he would move around in his cage and play with the toys and just be still like that when I come in, but it looks like he's barely moved since I've put him in his cage. Thanks in advance!

Ekko, my eclectus, always seems to use the same spot in his cage to poop. He moves around the cage all the time, but likes that one perch to poop from for some reason.

Your new fella is still settling in and getting used to his new surroundings, I think. Have you been able to spend any time in his room just talking to him?

Last night I talked to him for a couple minutes before covering up his cage, but other than that, no. I didn't want to overwhelm him. So I should spend some time in there just talking to him today?

Yes, I would spend time with him. He is used to being around people, and may be feeling a little lonely. He may even come out if you open his door:)

As Terry is suggesting, you should try to spend time next to his cage talking with him. It's good that you're being careful not to rush him into interacting with you, but at the same time you want to make yourself available so that he comes to understand that you're not a threat. You can even start trying to give him treats through the cage bars and such. Eventually, you can then start opening the cage door and holding the treat closer and closer to the door. He'll let you know if he's not ready.

And as for the poop area, my bird has a favorite spot as well. So long as he is eating and his poop looks as it should (mostly green and white) then things are probably okay. You'll eventually want to pick up a bird scale to keep track of his weight, as well.

Thank you both so much! I'll definitely spend time next to his cage talking with him. He loves his grapes so I'll use that as a bribery treat, lol. Again, thanks! :D :)

Let us know how he is coming along! What an exciting journey the two of you are starting together:)

Ekkies are little pigs with green feathers, so food is always a great bribery. Also they require a special diet with fresh fruit and veggies, and no artificial colors in their pellets. Not sure if anyone mentioned that in this thread, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

Good luck with your new fid.

Yeah, right now I'm trying to wean him off of a mostly seed diet and am replacing it with fruits, vegetables, and pellets. He will eat almost any thing except for spinach and his pellets. XD
I'll keep all of you updated on him for sure. :)

What pellets are you giving? Eclectus shouldn't have pellets, unless maybe if they are especially FOR Eclectus … and a picture of an Eclectus on the front does NOT mean they're for Eclecuts. They are beautiful birds and designers use them for the front of many bird food bags. :\

Another word about grapes, our Eclectus loves them too but don't freak out if the droppings become really watery (and I mean REALLY). We panicked when it happened and found out that grapes will do that. Still our girl loves them too.

I agree with everyone, talk quietly to your bird as much as you can. They tend to sit very quietly and very still when they are in a new environment so he's just nervous.

Congratulations Sunshine!!!! I am soooo excited for you and your newest feather child.

When Oliver first came home, like you, I let him settle in to not overwhelm him. I did sit next to his cage and talked and sang to him like I did on our weekend visits before he left the breeder. I also gave him warm oatmeal from a spoon to build a bond. He LOVED that.

AS for his droppings, he always deposits in the same spot. This makes for easy cleaning!!! :rainbow1:

Thanks everyone! I got pellets made especially for Eclectus, I'll have to look later to what they're called. When I was changing out his water he stretched out his wings and I was like...wow. Look at that red!Lol!

Oh, yeah! There's such a beautiful array of colors in their underwings and on their flight feathers! I love it when Bixby stretches his wings!

As for the pellets, I can't speak from personal experience since I don't give any to Bixby. But that said, the only ones I've heard consistently good stuff about (so far as eclectus parrots are concerned) is Harrison's.

I figured out he loves pecans! (Don't worry, they don't have any salt or anything on them, they're just plain.) He's taking them from my hand through the bars of the cage! :) I'm so excited! Lol. XD With this good news, comes a question. When I came over to his cage earlier to just sit and talk with him, I noticed he was adjusting his crop, but he did that a couple times along with itching his nose and then sneezing. He also did that a couple times in a row. Is it normal to do it a couple times in a row or no? Sorry if I seem paranoid.

Sneezing a couple of times in a row isn't a cause for concern unless it's happening a lot. But as for your crop question, I'm not really certain what you mean by "adjusting his crop." If it's still happening, you might want to catch it on video and post it here.

Otherwise, any updates?

The thing that i dont like about pellets is that every type i have read about (on their website) says something like "Fresh fruit and vegetable treats may be given as a minor part of the diet", or "Offer vegetables and fruits in small quantities".
Which is so misleading, especially for a bird like an Eclectus!!

Yeah, that's kinda dumb for them to say, but I guess whatever they can do to make money, right? The newest update on him is that he's doing very good and I took him ou of the cage today on his terms, he readily stepped onto my hand and I gave him half of an almond. :)

That's great news! He's come a long way in a short time:)
