So my guys all love to be misted with a water bottle, on their cage. I have always done it this way, but would like to start getting them used to the shower. (Less clean up that way.) I try to make it fun for them and tell them how wonderful they are, but they hate it. Hate it! I have been putting them in the shower for a few months, and they just don't like it. Any ideas?

go in with them! let them see you shower 1st :)

have you got perches for them?

nut hates the shower, mostly i think because of how hard/fast the water comes out, even when its a trickle

try over the bath with a hand held hose thats what we do with mylah

I had a similar problem with a skittish alexandrine.....He eventually came round but it was a long slow process, first just getting him used to being in the bathroom, then getting him used to being in there with the shower going in the background, then getting him to stand up on the rail while i showered, then misting him with the spray bottle while i showered, etc etc etc lol he finally got there in the end but it took 3 months of me being very very patient (something im not very good at but parots are one of the best patience trainers ive ever had!) lol....good luck!!!

Wow I wouldn't have imagined showering being a problem amoung parrots, since Dusky ENJOYS it alot! I place him far from shower head --without a perch-- and turn on, the water hits him for a sec or two and I turn shower head away and he follows where the water goes! he loves to sit it the warm side. Uhm, my shower head is a special massage one that sprinkles water in nice even way. And the shower has sit in tub so its ot a walk in, Dusky likes to be enclosed so maybe thats other reason why.

You might want to try a shower perch since they are easy for the bird to grip onto and they only the the overspray from the water bouncing off of you. Mine love to shower this way, but hate to sit anywhere else in the shower. I turn the water on first, place them on their perch and then I take a shower. Mine will turn around, lower their heads and then start preening before the water stops. Just be careful giving your bird a shower. Too much water hitting them too hard can drown a bird.
