Sick budgie Mariah

Mariah apearrs to be getting better! I'm not sure she's going to be mobile enough to go back to her cage but I'm hopeful. She's eating normally and perching pretty well. Her wings were drooping but she's holding them normally now. I'm going to put her on a large bed tomorrow and watch how she walks around. If she rolls on back and can't roll back over I'll keep her in her bin.

C'mon Mariah! We're root'n for ya!

Mariah is definitely better but I don't think she's going to be able to go back to a conventional cage. Shes just not right. I took her out this morning and put her on the floor to walk around and observe her. She still stumbles too much to climb around in her 24x32x32 cage she shared with four other English budgies. Their door is open all day 8am to 8pm and they go in and out all day. When she stumbles she sometimes falls into her back and has trouble righting herself. If she falls repeatedly she will either get injured or wear herself out trying. She's not very sociable with the others so I don't worry about loneliness too much and she has a prime spot in front of a window with a view just 8 feet from where we sit in the room so she's not too isolated. She may have had a mild stroke that just disabled her a bit. She would probably perish quickly in most situations.
Her current bin is 20x16x12 and I've outfitted it with ladders and low perches with her food and water closeby. She eats and poops normally and even chirped for me when I took her out this morning. I pick her up and clean her vent every day and it hasn't had too much poop build up.
My plan is to get her a larger bin- maybe 30x12x16- and make it homey for her. I just gave her a new toy to keep her stimulated
Here's a picture of her current set up.

Mariah is such a sweet docile budgie and has been since I got her a year ago. I don't know if her questonable health makes her that way. She's very calm when I take her out and makes no effort at all to get away from us humans. She nips when I hold her to clean her poop shoot but wouldn't any bird? . I somehow think she knows I'm taking good care of her. I just know that I'm not giving up on her.

She's a darling, and so are you for taking such good care of her :)

I was on vacation and I am so happy to hear Mariah is doing better ❤️❤️

Mariah is doing very well! I took her out of her bin this morning to see how she was able to get around and she flew over to the top of the large cage she shared with four other English budgies and landed with no problems. The others came over to greet her, including her brother, Jimmy Buffettbird (on the left in the picture), as though they missed her, and she began to eat out of the chop dish.
She still looks a bit unsteady on her feet and stumbles a bit walking on the cage bars but I think she's recovered enough from what happened a month ago to go back home. I really didn't think she would survive let alone be able to rejoin the flock. I wonder what was wrong with her. I think she might have gotten injured the day I found her on the floor and just needed to heal and rebuild her strength. Maybe a bad sprain or strain or even a fracture that's since healed. I'm really glad I didn't give up and put Mariah down as I'm sure the vet would recommended. Now I just need to watch her and make sure she's safe.
