I went to a pet store today. It seemed like an okay place, nothing amazing. It had a few parrots, and a ferret-type cage full of lovebirds and cockatiels. One of the lovebirds (a very cute little apple-green one) seemed to be walking in a weird waddling way. I looked closer, and on its "rump" was a big red lump. I can't remember the exact size. Probably a little bigger than a pea? Poor thing. It looked a lot like the thing my hamster had before it died. It was causing it to waddle. I feel so sad for it...

I cannot believe they would sell a bird with that. I noticed in five minutes, shouldn't they have known and taken it out by now? I'm going to email them later about it.

Do any of you know what that is? Tumor? Disease? I also wanted to make sure I didn't bring any contagious disease with me.

Sounds like it could be anything from an infected/impacted feather follicle to a tumor to a possible impacted uropygial gland.....here's a pic of an impacted uropygial gland...sorry it's so small, but the pic I took it from was just a thumbnail.....

Poor baby, I would talk to the manager, if they are a good place they will have a vet take a look at it. That's what my pet smart does, they have a vet on hand but yes I would notify them.

Without a pic, it could be anything from something potentially fatal like a tumor or serious infection to something treatable and relatively minor like an ingrown feather or (depending on location) hemorrhoid. I hope the manager is understanding when you email them and removes the bird so it can be promptly seen by a vet!
