Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
I am having a tree service come out and remove a dead tree and prune some of my huge ones. They will probably come while i am at work one day, and Gilbert has a view of one of the huge trees from his cage (from a decorative window--no curtain or shade on it because it's there just to be pretty).

Do you think he would be afraid while they are out there pruning it?? Should i have someone at my house to be with Gilbert in case he is scared? I'm not sure how he will react to seeing all that 'activity' happening at a higher level than he is. (he hates kites and zeppelins and helicopters, but doesn't mind planes).

Georgie was terrified of anything higher than she was--helium balloons, even a flashlight if you set it down or wiggled it and it 'flew' above her, total freak out from her. Gilbert is way less fearful but i'm not sure what he may think of the tree people.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Is it an option to cover the side of the cage where he can see everything going on?

will they be using some sort of chain saw, or just tree cutters?

I have his cage in a corner so the back and right side are 'covered' already, with a view of the room on the left and front, and the front sees out the windows. He has never been covered before, so I'm not sure what he would think of that. I was thinking, if i move my furniture, i may be able to position his cage out of view of that window. hmm. i'm not 100% sure what they will be using, but the tree Gilbert will see is a gigantic maple and with the smaller one they are taking down, i'm sure there will be a lot of noise going on.

Ok, i just called the tree service again and told them that they have to give me a definite heads up because i have a parrot who will be able to see them....if i know exactly when they are coming, i will make arrangements for him!

Gilbert is so fortunate to have such a great Momma looking after him!

Gilbert is a very lucky conure! I'm sure the tree people have never that request before, but I'm glad you made it!

Honestly i carry some kind of guilt/grief for poor Georgie's untimely death (assuming she was scared when i was at work and that caused her 'blunt trauma') and i promised her, myself and my Gilbert that i would do anything and everything in my power to protect him. Gilbert gets the benefit of his 'big sister', and i hope she is smiling down on us. ;)

awwwww, that makes me teary! I'm sure Georgie is now Gilbert's guardian angel. Birds are so fragile, it's impossible not to worry all the time!

Oh my goodness, everything is 'going my way' today. I got a call from the tree service saying they will come when i'm home next week for a fridge repair! I'll be home with Gilbert when they are working afterall! And the repair of the fridge--they said as a courtesy they would do it for free. Wow. i feel like i am having a strange upswing of luck!!!

That's great! It's so nice when everything falls into place! :)

So, SILLY SILLY ME--of course "Joe Cool" Gilbert couldn't care less about the tree crew today!!! He was eating and swinging from his toys cheerfully. Two of my dogs freaked out and I had to thundershirt the one. Go figure. Gilbert seems to not be bothered by too much. Good for him! I have to admit, it was quite noisy, and my one dog is afraid of many loud noises.
