Sleeping Cage?

Do any of you have a separate sleeping cages for your fids?

A breeder I was researching was very insistent that a different cage, placed in a different room than the "daytime" cage, be used for all birds.

Wondering how common this practice is and if any of you who do you a sleeping cage find it to make a difference.

Lots of people do it. I don't see the point personally.

I suppose it is like separate bedroom for a person? It makes sense, but I do not do it for my parrots. There are too many and some are too dangerous.

I know lots of people do use a nighttime cage, but like Karen, I don't see the point. I do cover Kiwi's cage at night as a way to indicate "time for bed" or else he'd be up until we went to bed. I guess living in a 1 bedroom apartment, there hasn't ever been an option to give him his own bedroom so he can sleep in total silence at night:20: He's adapted just fine to sleeping covered in the living room, and it's not like the jungle (his natural habitat) is dead silent or pitch black at night either.

My JoJo does not, wife's Bongo does have a sleep cage. His bedroom is a large walk in closet. Both do well!

We currently have an African Grey that belongs to a friend staying with us. During the day he loves to spend time outside in his travel cage. His main cage is in our main living room. At dusk he becomes VERY insistent about "night night" punctuated by a LOUD "whoop" whistle following. I cover his cage with a blanket and that helps. If im home alone watching tv he will only scold me about night night when I get up for the bathroom or kitchen. Sitting still, im golden. When hubby is home with me he will scold us frequently. This past weekend my stepdaughter and granddaughter were both here and he was not a happy birdie. My granddaughter will be 3 next month and she asked me "why does he keep screaming at us?" Clearly, he would appreciate a cage in a closed room for night night. Covering him is not sufficient for adequate sleep for him, even with one person quietly watching tv.

None of my birds have night cages, though they seem to have a favorite spot to sleep in. Some do not sleep in a cage but prefer a playpen; they are in a secure "bird room" so any location they choose is acceptable.

I do have a Timneh who has a "day cage" of sorts! He has a permanent cage that is never closed that is adjacent to an older cage that has no food/water or bottom grate. He spends hours during the day in that cage standing in various locations, sometimes on the lower support structure. (it is mounted on a stand with a long pole)

My yellow sided conure doesn't have a separate cage. He does just fine. In fact, when its bed time and he sees me take out his blanket he says "go nite nite" lol.
