Sneezy Samson

My Conure has become a bit of a sneezer-- it's been pretty frequent and I've heard that that really isn't too normal. He doesn't seem phased by it at all, but Im a bit worried. Today he had a bit of a sneezing fit-- they kind of came pretty violently in a string for maybe 7 seconds.

I've got to my vet to check this out, and now I have medicine for him to be taking twice a day for a week. He's on his third day with it, so I'm hoping to see some improvement but I'm worried there might be more going on.

Anyone else have any sneezing problems and how did they turn out?
I'm broke in the bank until my Student Loans come in so I'm reaaallly hoping that he gets better soon or else I will have some trouble accessing him better healthcare options. Poor Samson. Why does your sneezing have to be so darn cute?

Poor Samson What did the vet say is wrong? Hopefully the meds help and Samson is back to normal and only pretending to sneeze soon

Anything you can do to improve his immediate environment will help him, regardless of what is going on. Minimize dust, maximize sunlight. Get him outside for some direct sun and fresh air as much as you can.

Keep his cage and play areas very clean. Clean cage liner before bed because we all heal in our sleep.

Foods rich in beta carotene support and repair the linings of the sinuses and airways -- think carrots, red/orange bell pepper.

Sneezing can be irritation from environment, bad reaction to chemicals, bacterial or fungal. Fungal is probably the scariest/hardest to get rid of, and also hard to find. Testing doesn't always give black and white answers, and can get costly fast.

Talk to your vet about what your options are with testing if you choose to go this route. From my experience, it is best to have an avian specialist do certain tests, and find one who is not afraid to consult with others in the field regarding the results. May seem more expensive, but it is cheaper than running tons of tests -- been there done that!

For what it's worth... my Rickeybird sneezed episodically, a lot, during his first 2-3 years... the vet could find no reason. Sometimes the Rb even had a discharge from his nares. It went away. No explanation ever identified. Maybe, in part, baby allergy adjustments/overcoming?
