Two of my birdies, namely Fang and HRH Lilly Pilly, went to the vet for their annual wellness check a few weeks back, Val is due for his early next year. The vets have picked up on “changes” in Fang and Val’s feet due to perching a lot on hard surfaces and I have taken many steps to try and remedy this but they continue to insist on deliberately seeking out the few remaining hard surfaces to perch on! To date I have wrapped their perches in equine vet tape and re-wrapped them in sisal twine so they’re nice and spongy, and I’ve draped those cargo net thingies over the domed tops of their cages to provide relief from the hard cage surfaces. We also have one of those wooden room divider/privacy screen jobs near our front door that they like to sit on which I’ve recently cable-tied some braided seagrass onto. Val will sit there very tentatively but Fang thinks it’s now radioactive and won’t go near it. In fact Fang seems to actively seek out spots like the hard top of his cage door or the rim of a ceramic feed dish to sit on, almost totally ignoring all of the efforts I’ve made to improve his comfort!
Difficult? Ungrateful?? You betcha!!
