So a while ago... I had wondered if a Sockbuddy style harness could be made...

And low and behold with a little ingenuity and some soft stretchy fleece fabric I did just that!

Wondering what you folks think and how it could possibly be improved?

Its so easy to get on... and off.

At first he was confused by it because it wasn't like his usual harness... which he puts up with but I reallydon't like the design for such a small bird.

I've tried the feather tether and the Aviator.. and for such a small little guy it seemed to bother him.

This didn't and we even did a flight test! He flew to my husband and had no issues at all.

What do ya think?

And for being such a good boy... he's having a nice bowl of minced seed. lols.

looks almost like my Tsuka's harness :D

Heehee.

Distractions distractions.

Aka the buttons on the back x.x

tsuka's harness. it's grey so it blends in lol but the distraction is the heart shaped loop on the attachment piece lol it goes over him like a sweater, his wings pulled through the holes. i always check it before we go out for walks to be sure it fits properly ;) i've been making these ones since i first started bringing them out, up until my friend gave me her old flight suit her tiel didnt like. i'm eventually getting tsuka a flight suit as well. he's not a fan of having his wings touched, so this harness he has some difficulty putting on.

here's photos from when they were a baby with their handmade harnesses...

you can see how they fit in this photo, another young photo:

i wonder if porter would take to a flight suit? it fits like these ones do, and i feel they are easier to put on. i would use a different leash attachment though than the one that comes with it.

I think it's great!

that looks great! I never thought about making a harness like that! I have to try one for my lovebirds now cause they wont fit in any harness ive bought so far!

Tried the flight suit.. he hated the part that well covered his underside.
And I mean... hated.

Got him used to the thing and he let me put it on him ONCE.

Then?

He won't go near it... no matter how much I give him treats and other such.

lols... I'm kinda reduced to the homemade one on a permanent basis.... and I have plenty of fabric to make replacements xP

just always check it before bringing him out, and triple sew where it is sewn :) i always test it indoors, i do a visual check where i make sure all the stitching is secure, even on the attachment piece and then i check the harness on the bird and make sure it is not too loose where it slides off. then i do a flight check, with the bird on the harness to be sure it cannot slip off.

Could you please tell me how to make it? i can't find any right sized harness for my lovebirds so I am gonna make one and that design of yours surely look great!

Don't you love your Brotogeris? We had a canary winged one , Max, and he was so friendly to every one. We still miss him every day. Good thinkin' on the sock puppet harness.
