So I hope Anyways....
Friend of my mom has an 8yo male eclectus. She says it is healthy and i believe her, just needs a nail clipping because she hasnt been able to afford it.
Main reason she wants to find a new home is because she feels she does not spend/have adequate time with the birdie.

On that note i do work a 4 10 hour work week. But on my days off I am mostly home. I have no problem adopting him but I as of yet never considered/researched Eclectus.

I think I would make a good parront.
I am just curious about the highs and lows? of being an eclectus parront?

I suck at typing out my thoughts so please ask me questions as well as give answers lol :D

At one point I didn't get into eclectus cause I was afraid I couldn't commit to their nutritional needs but after having them for awhile, its nothing complicated at all. We feed fresh fruits and veggies during the day and minimal seeds at night. A table spoon full split for the pair. They also get their treats and such. So to me they're simple birds to care for. They don't mix well with pellets! Additive vitamins is actually bad for them as it cause them to get toe tapping symptom and wing flipping.

I read about the toe tapping thing in the sticky post. Im all nervous thats gonna happen now lol.
I plan on keeping the birds diet the same it is now. She has had him for 8 years so she knows best what he needs/likes to eat and what is good for him.

Except for the nutritional aspects, I just think every bird is an individual. I have found my bird is definitely not a textbook ekkie. (He's still only 5 mos old though)

The lows for me are his squawks. I mean, mine is still a baby, and squawks every time he hears a fork hit a plate or any beeps. Nothing compared to when he is annoyed though. Look up Sodakat's threads, she has a few videos I found really interesting on how loud they can be.

The great things to me are how snuggly mine is, he is just happy as ever hanging out on my shoulder while I'm doing things. He is so stinking cute with the lil coo noises he makes when he falls asleep and hilarious playing. He quickly became my little buddy and I already cannot imagine my life without him. Even with all the poop!

I honestly don't mean to sound judgmental, but are nail clippings that expensive? I feel like I spend a decent amount per week just for Eko's fresh foods. (that he doesn't even like lol) I'm all of a sudden glad the shop I got him from offered to cut his nails anytime for free.

Nail trimmings should be between 10-20 dollars. 20 being a bit over priced for JUST nails. Usually for 20 you can get the whole works done (beak trimming, nail clipping, wing clipping). If you work with the bird you can train him to lay on his back or offer his foot and you can file down his nails at home. I haven't taken Nalani to get a nail trim for almost a year!!

If you live with someone else, you may be able to work out a schedule where they can watch him while you're away at work for a few hours. That way he won't be stuck in his cage all day 4 days out of the week. Although, it won't be devastating if he spends a day or two in his cage, it may be ideal to upgrade him to nice, large macaw cage.

the highs they will love you to death if you show them the same love , the lows yes the squawking but after 14 years i no longer hear it, my partner does not no how i can lay down in the bird room with 7 of them going off there head and go to sleep,i know all there squawks and unless its a im hurt i can sleep right through the noise , but the main thing is there diet, here in oz one bird you would probably be looking at around $30 a week to feed, me it cost $110 p/w

I will definitely ask about the toe clipping when i talk to her again. This weekend I am thinking. I dont think its a lack of care on her part, but doesnt hurt to ask. I know that thing called Life happend with her so we shall see.
As far as their sqwuaks, i live in inner city so there is always noise. And i hope it bothers my upstairs neighbors XD.... JK
I know a budgie is nothing in noise compared to an ekkie but ive tolerated more than one budgie with ease in my life. So i could probably get away with earplugs lol. :)

Also . If anyone would know of a reputable avian vet in southern NH,USA please let me know. I will keep in mind the birdies original vet, as well. Just info gathering still :)
