Rest in Peace Rio
I would really like to get a spare set of bowls for River's cage. Of course I handwash them each day, but would rather have a spare set so I can put them through the dishwasher. (maybe its just me, but I feel dishes are more "sanitized" that way). I've been running around with a tape measure in my purse, measuring bowls (dog, cat, bird) wherever I go to find ones that will work. People probably walk by thinking I'm nuts measuring metal bowls in the pet section lol. No luck yet, everything is too big or too small. I emailed the company that makes his cage friday, hopefully they answer back that I can buy a second set of bowls. :)

You should be able to get another set from the company, I know most places sell replacement bowls in case the originals get lost or broken. I know how you feel though, I would like another set for each of our cages as well, our dishwasher takes awhile to run and I'm sure we would have some noisy angry birdies if they had to go a whole 2 hours without their food lol.

lol it really depends how hot your dish washer gets for sanitizing to take place, good luck with finding new bowls though

If the bowl is in plastic the it is possible that the temperature in the dishwasher is to high

They are stainless steel

I don't know if they are all this way because this is the first I have had a dishwasher but ours gets so hot that I have to let it sit forever before I can unload it because the dishes are sooooo hot. Ours goes through this steam cycle and steams all of the dishes, when we first moved in it was running and I thought the kitchen was on fire when I saw the steam from about 20 feet away :p:rolleyes::cool:

I set mine to the hottest/highest settings too. When we bought this house a year ago, I was ecstatic to have a dishwasher! Best appliance ever! lol

Just emailed my favorite bird shopping store, got an email right back, they have bowls that will work! yea! :)

yeah rio :)

i'm the only dish washer in our house :( lol

I subsitute Bleu's ceramic crocks for some campbell's soup mugs when his usual bowls are in the sink :D haha he likes playing with the handles. He's got an icecream bowl (looks like a waffle ice cream bowl) that sits on top of his cage that he LOVES to perch on, it's heave ceramic too. I fill it with veggie nutriberries and peppers!

So glad you were able to get more bowls.

Years ago, when I saw exactly the same bowls, selling at a reasonable price, I bought 6 of them.

Always a good idea to have more that what you actually need.

I run them through the dishwasher after the birds have gone to bed. I don't leave the food in the cage at night anyway because this time of year I get mice in the house. I don't want them going into the bird cages. I am like obsessed with the idea that mice could give some kind of diseases or infections to the birds. I saw one a few days ago so the traps are all out. My cat gets some, but she doesn't always kill them. Sometimes she plays with them for awhile and then lets them go. Darn cat! And then come morning the dishes are all cooled down and ready to use. Extra dishes would be nice though. I can't even remember who made these cages I have. Being single though my dishwasher isn't going on a daily basis. The days I don't run it, I hand wash them.
