Species/Type Help Updated w/ photo

Looks like a Blue Crown Conure perhaps, but in really rough shape. What is the story behind your bird?

Here are your pictures. I use Photobucket to upload my pictures, and then copy and paste the IMG code link here.

Welcome to the forum:)

I agree, your Bird does not look in good shape at the moment. Is it one you have rescued?

Not exactly a rescue, it was more like I took her off of someone's hands. The former owner was pretty neglectful in a disinterested kind of way.

We are crazy about her so she gets a lot of attention and affection. However O can readily admit that my ignorance may be making me neglectful as well. I have been doing as much research as I can trying to remedy that.

When we first brought her home she started to pluck our her chest feathers. The stress of a new environment is what we decided was the reason. Now they are filling back in nicely, but they are not quite there yet. Please tell me if there is something else you notice. , Is she underweight?

Defiantly a blue crowned.. her weight seems OK but she does look a little ragged. If you haven't taken her to the vet yet if recommend it

Yes, I agree, it would be a good idea to take her to the vet for a check up!

What sort of Diet do you have her on at the moment? Diet is quite important to keep them healthy.

We feed her a parrot seed mix, but she mainly eats the sunflower seeds out of it, oh and the peanuts. She loves to eat whatever we are eating, so she gets some of that. Mainly cheese, veggies, bread, tortilla, and meat.

You are feeding her all the wrong things!!

She needs plenty of Fruit and Veg, and you need to try and wean her off seed and try to get her onto Pellets! This is why she looks like she does, as she has been on a very bad diet :(

I agree with Wenz2712, try changing the diet.

Not an expert on Blue Crowns, but Ive researched a bunch on Green Cheek conures. The best thing to do I think, is research a bunch. Try searching things like Blue crown conure info and conure info. Hope everything goes all right! Congrats on the new parrot!

Hi, & welcome to the forum!

Definitely start adding a good variety of fruit & veg to her diet, then get hold of some pellets and try to gradually get her off the seed and onto pellets. Maybe keep the sunflower seeds just for training rewards, they'd be great motivation for her seeing as she loves them so much!

Good on you for stepping in to help her. There's loads of good info & helpful people on this forum. :)

ETA: just avoid avocado - it's toxic to birds

feed hera lot of fruits and veggies! and get her off those seeds and on some good qualitly pellets! also, dont feed much meat or cheese. some bread is okay. i feed my quaker a piece of whole or ten grain bread every day.

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I feel like such a monster for unknowingly mistreating her. I will definitely find a good avian vet and get her seen asap, and I will work on weaning her off the seeds.

Poor lil thing! I would have a vet check him too, to make sure everything is ok with this lil fellow! I hope you show him there are caring people out there! Give him a better life then what he had :) Keep us updated!

No, No, please don't feel bad.

This is a GREAT forum with very knowledgable and very friendly folks, who give their time trying to help others. We were all newbies at one point. ;)

There are many mixes available that don't contain sunflower seeds and peanuts. There is a boatload of different pellets available. Try switching her gradually, and if possible, monitor her weight while switching her diet.

Lots of fresh veggies will benefit her as well. Browse through our "Recipe" section and you might get inspired.

And lastly, bathe her at least once a week - it will help her plumage.

Lastly, a vet check will let you know whether she has any underlying health problems that are not visible to the naked eye.

Best of luck, and we are here for you, rooting you on. :)
