Button & Ava

Now you know all about inos and not your own bird! I don't know much about dark eyed white or yellow birds' genetics.
I’m wondering if he might be an Opaline Pallid Turquoise. I did a little digging, and found some info on these two websites:

When I googled Opaline Pallid Turquoise, I found an image of this bird that looks very similar to Button.

I don’t know if Button’s eyes were plum colored as a hatchling, but his feet and beak are very light colored, not grey. He never had a black spot on his beak near his nares as a baby. He’s mostly yellow and white, with some areas of very light greenish/bluish, and has a white head with a very light peach brow.

Ava and I started some recall training today, which she thoroughly enjoyed. My goal is for her to be recall trained before her flight feathers grow back in so she’s easier to handle. She hasn’t molted any of her clipped feathers yet, so we’ve got lots of time to practice. We started by doing little hops between two chair backs. I gradually increased the distance between the chair backs, and at the end of the session she was comfortable with flapping/hopping about 15ā€. I’ll continue increasing the distance gradually over more training sessions, and will eventually ask her to come to my hand instead, but will be sure only to ask for what she’s capable of doing. Poor girl can’t get much lift with her wings clipped as they are, but it’s great exercise and practice for her nonetheless.

Awesome! Those hops will help her build up muscle strength while waiting for those feathers to grow back, and will do wonders for her confidence too!

That’s my hope too, to build her confidence. When we adopted her in June, she was so clumsy, and even had difficulty climbing around in her new big cage. She wouldn’t hop from perch to perch, & couldn’t figure out how to climb on a swing. She’s been building some confidence and muscle over the last few months, no doubt. She’s much less clumsy, and climbs around her cage, no problem. She’ll be a fit little lady in no time. 😊

Ava made it 20ā€ comfortably hopping & flapping between chair backs today. I think I’ll try getting her to hop to my hand in the next couple of days. šŸ¤ž

Way to go Ava, good job!!

Wooooot Ava!

You’ll have to post a video of Ava hopping between the 2 chairs. How cute !! 🄰

I was in the office doing some things this morning, which is where Ava’s big cage is. I heard her doing her snorting/scoffing thing at me. I turned around to see this. lol. I’ve never seen her hang upside down like this, besides when she does her flips during bath time. But never just hanging out, upside down. Baby girl is definitely getting stronger.

She's doing gymnastics training for the next Birdy Olympics! ;)

Button Bean is doing well, acting more like himself, and has gained a gram, so there’s one gram to go to get back to his normal weight. I’m continuing to feed him extra food, as he is still extra hungry.

Ava bird is doing great with recall training. She has started jumping to my hand when I call her. I’ve been slowly increasing the distance, and am so proud of and excited for her. She was very nervous to jump to my hand, rather than the chair back, at first. She managed to work up the courage to do a very small hop (just beyond her reach for a step-up). Her confidence quickly built up from there, once she realized I would reliably catch her. Now she’s jumping & flapping at least 18ā€ to get to my hand. She’s so excited by it. It’s very cute.

Ava left some beautiful treasures in her cage last night. I’ll be watching for the fourth one to drop today or tomorrow. šŸ˜

Ava has been doing so well with her recall training. Last night, I extended the distance for her to jump to me by just a bit, and she was so incredibly cute when she stuck the landing. She was very excited and so proud of herself. Each time she’d land, she’d say, ā€œWoo! Good girl, Ava!ā€ Lol

Button is being adorable, as usual. He’s very cuddly these days, as we snuggle in for the start of winter. There are big fat snowflakes falling today. He watches Ava train, and is very eager for his turn to show off his skills after. He’s such a smart little whip. 😊

Ava says that? How cute!
Yes, she tells herself she’s a good girl quite often. While I’m training her, I usually say, ā€œGood girl, Ava!ā€ or ā€œGood girl!ā€ as I give her a treat. She has started saying it too when she knows she’s done what I’ve asked. It’s very cute to hear her congratulate herself. 😊

Another adorable thing she’s been saying lately is ā€œup up?ā€ when we walk by. It’s like a toddler asking to be picked up. 🄹 She also has been saying ā€œscritchā€ and puts her head down when she wants a scratch. It’s very neat that she is verbally communicating what she wants from us.

I gave Ava a really good spray bath. I use aloe in the spray bottle to help moisturize her feathers and feet. She had her wings out, hanging upside down, tail wagging…the whole routine. Now she’s sitting in her cage with her head flat, looking like a grumpy little wet toad. šŸ˜†

"I just washed my feathers and now I can't do a THING with them!" ~ Ava probably ;)
